I think I remember this. I remember it was something called the Zephyr League, the enemy was Team Steam, and Ash, Red, Yellow, Gold, and all these other player variants appeared in the story. Also I remember that you couldn't leave the safari zone, which was in the second town, until you used every ball, and that was a pain because there was only like three mons you could encounter. Also your mom doesn't heal you and the first road is packed with trainers.

It's somewhat fun to play, and it's got some fun gimmicks. It's by no means excellent but it's fun enough to play through once or twice, with a decent variety in wilds, and a bit of challenge without it being stupid. Though the dragon spam that happens later on in the game gets somewhat tedious.

The only good romhacks are difficulty hacks tbqh

I recently beat Victory Fire and that was awful. Terrible engrish, like 5 different fucking rivals who follow you everywhere and challenge you to a battle at the most inappropriate times, Jessie/James expy evil team, talking protag and people in every town trying to give you Pokes.

Early-gen hacks like Red++ and Polished Crystal can't just because of coding limitations. Red++ has 205 Pokémon compared to the original 151 (most are cross-gens) and Polished Crystal has 253 (with some Gen 1/2 Pokémon removed so cross-gens can be added).

the things you're looking for tend to contradict each other. It's very hard to add lots of new content without fucking up the balance or the pace of the game, see: pseudo-legendaries in early game (glazed), stupidly overpowered custom moves (Vega), horrid fanfiction-tier plot and 17 edgy rivals constatly getting in your way (never played those hacks but you know there's lots of 'em). The most enjoyable hacks are usually those that don't steer away too much from the main games.
