How would you incentivize attacking gyms while maintaining the viability of training?

Previously, training was pretty much never worth it unless you were using the bubble exploit. By fixing that, however, Niantic introduced the new problem: Every gym ends up at level ten, making it daunting for other teams to attack and locking members of the controlling team out from assigning their mons to it. Everybody loses in the new scenario, but, ideally, training SHOULD be viable.

Well about training there is one problem, you still need people for that, so it takes some coordination to get a gym going, on my city there are lots of gyms that change hands very often.
I think it's not that people are scared of level 10 gyms, people just don't give a fuck, I have a 24k prestige gym and the lowest defender is a shitty twisterdos with 1700 CP so far no one ever tried attacking it.

It's even worse when you're Instinct and waste tons of resources getting your best pokemon into a level 10 gym to have it wrecked by a Valor or Mystic literal bigger within 12 hours. There's no fixing gyms for Instinct. They have the numbers on us and there's nothing you can do about it within the game.

You can't even beat 3 or 4 gyms solo after midnight anymore because they're all max level.

It can take a single person a solid hour to take down a level 10 gym, which most people don't wanna do. A single person however can raise the prestige of one gym considerably if there's a favorable lineup, and open multiple slots which boosts prestige even further when people take them.
That's the real issue here. It takes co-ordinated efforts to take down gyms, not as much to build them up.

Can't tell you how much I got cucked up by leveling up a gym and having some fag put a 320 CP mon or some shit at 900 despite being like level 23.
It's really a hit or miss, I just post it on the FB group where I know the "hardcore" guys are, and by hardcore I mean carfags that go at any hour and raise the prestige for you.
Yesterday I saw a 28k prestige with only 2 mons on it and like 3 open spaces, next day I went there it was already blue, I fucked up by not going but it was raining.

I'm not really a fan of lapras and 50 candy still won't help you reach a level 30 powerbase I think since you need like 70 candy and 77k stardust I think.

Sometimes you get unlucky and an enemy team shows up before allies can fortify, yeah. That's unfortunately the risk of doing so.

The instinct gym I took down earlier and trained up to level 4, is now sitting comfortably at level 7 with some suitably strong Pokémon.
The mystic gym I trained up to maybe level 5 earlier though got taken down by valor, with three Pokémon defending it. It was probably a small group of friends who didn't even bother to prestige train, a lot of casual players don't understand the mechanics of training.

So the most efficent mons to walk are:
For good places at gym:
Dratini and snorlax and to a lesser extend palm tree and RK9
For actually attacking/leveling up:
Jigglypuff, seriously this nigga is way too good he has low CP which makes him even great and he has a crap ton of HP. Clefable is ok but not that good.

Strategically it sounds pretty right to me, beyond level 30 the effort required to level up becomes too great, the three lucky eggs you'll get upon hitting that milestone will barely bring you a third of the way to level 31.

I just hit level 28 this morning, and have four lucky eggs left over still. I expect to get roughly 240k EXP from using them correctly, but that alone won't get me to level 29. Playing actively, catching lots of Pokémon however will, but it'll take more to hit level 30 and finally unlock max revives.

When you get to that stage though, anything more you do that isn't towards completing the Pokédex is just gonna be turf wars and Poké Coins, which may be just for the incubators.

Good defender, I think second best moveset for gym defense behind double Psychic attacks. It has a pretty high CP cap too and not many comfortable counters besides maybe a Parasect.

I just played from home with flygps for the first time and i think i never got so many pokemon in one day like in the past hour. It's fucking ridiculous.

I live in a shithole and the nearest """city""" is like 20 minutes away. I put my spawn point in this city where i usually go and messed around, cathing tons of shit and getting pokestops.

The problem is it is hard to navigate with that shitty joystick and instead of walking 2 minutes i arrive there in a few seconds. Not that much distance on the minimap. I should be okay and there is nothing i could be banned for, right?

GPS drift works because of bad math. Well the math is good, it's that the assumptions made when plugging in the formula are bad.

What happens is that you get a set of coordinates from GPS. What the phone tries to do after is that it tries to approximate the coordinates of other wireless signals like cell towers and wifi signals.

Then it assigns some GPS world coordinate to those signal sources and when actual GPS is unavailable or the signal sources change in ping time, the phone decides that you must be moving and instead of waiting for GPS, it'll just use the locations it has for the other wireless signals to triangulate where you are.

In theory, this sound great and lessens the reliance on GPS.
In practice, the walls/floors in your building fuck with wireless signals all the time, wireless nodes might be moved or switched around, maybe one of the wireless sources is a laptop in a moving car that just passed by your window, cell towers go down, and worst of all, the phone doesn't actually have a good idea of where the wireless signals are supposed to be coming from and could just make really bad assumptions.

So doing something like shoving your phone under a mattress is good enough to make the wireless signals go haywire and make your phone think that it's moving, leading to drift.

And note that I said phone, not game. This is the location method used by your phone (check options). Android has GPS only, wifi-shit only, GPS+wifi shit as its options. If you turn it to GPS only, drift should decrease dramatically if you're outside (e.g. fighting a gym) because it ignores the other wireless signals that might cause you to rubberband 1km to the left and back. Shit like this is also why (a) GPS spoofing is still easy to do because the game relies on the phone to tell it the coordinates, and (b) why there's no easy way to detect/ban GPS spoofing because normal phones drift a fucking lot and it's hard to tell who's spoofing or just drifting.

It doesn't work like that. It's just the way gym AI works, certain moveset just do more damage. What does Steel Wing Dragonite hit? It's resisted by 3 types Dragon resists (Water, Fire, and Electric) but with the way the gym AI works, mathematically speaking, Steel Wing/Dragon Pulse Dragonite is the best moveset for gym defense. Same thing with Water Gun/Flash Cannon Blastoise.

I mean going by this list it's clearly a low tier defender even with an ideal defensive moveset but math is math.

While I can definitely see the argument against releasing a new Gen in the winter, they really ought to do one at the beginning of each other season. Gen II at the beginning of spring, Gen III at the beginning of summer, Gen IV at the beginning of fall. Gengar is a Special sweeper, meaning his stats are mainly focused on Special Attack and Speed.

Niantic's stupid conversion formula from mainline game base stats to PoGo treats Speed like shit, and punishes Pokemon for not having decent stats in both Physical and Special stats (e.g. High Special + Low Physical = Bad, Average Special + Average Physical = Good).

So a Special Sweeper like Gengar or Alakazam gets the short stick. Meanwhile Pokemon with above-average stats in both categories get much higher stat ceilings in PoGo.

I give a fuck about all the lvl 10 mystic gyms around, I just don't have the time or resources to kill all of them. I can beat most lvl 10 gyms with cp2500-3000 pokemon (unless they're all snorlaxes), usually even without losing a battle, but it still takes 45 minutes and probably 35-40 hyper/max potions, and a few revives for when it lags and starts auto-switching to pokemon that are almost dead.

I think they should just make it like training - the lower CP mons you use, the more damage to the prestige it does. It would allow you to kill them much faster if you choose good matchups and dodge well.

The game checks your coordinates once a minute and logs the distance between said coordinates and the coordinates from a minute ago.

Usually those jumps that are logged happen when the game is trying to do a GPS coordinate check specifically for logging. If it happens repeatedly within the same minute, the game decides you're just going too fast and ignores it. That's why "the first time" counts and multiple instances later aren't counted. And if you jump more than allowed by the 10.5km/h speed limit (I think it was 175 m or something) then the game also just doesn't log it. If the distance to the bridge is right on the edge of 175m, then the distance getting logged could just be random chance for your case.

Also the distance trackers (buddy, egg) update once every 4 minutes even though the game is logging distance so maybe you're just mistaking the first jump as an update that accumulated over the past 4 minutes and it was actually ignored.

I know for a fact this isn't true for at least one case where I added a 10km egg to incubation when I wasn't moving. I minimized the app for a moment and when I opened it up again it did the morph across the bridge and back. I instantly got a candy with the buddy system that was I was close to, and the 10k egg had something like .7 or .8 of mileage racked up.

Some other times might have been just mistaking the distance tracked updating every 4 minutes. Like sometimes you'll be standing still for a minute or two after walking and your 2k egg will start to hatch out of nowhere.

If you manage to get one of your pokemon in a gym, you can get 10 Pokecoins for each gym you have a pokemon defending it.

So if there are 3 separate gyms that each have 1 of your pokemon in it, you can collect 30 coins. You can only do this once every 20 hours however, so you can either cash out as soon as you got a pokemon in a gym, or try to push your luck and get into some more gyms first.

You can access it by going into the Shop menu and in the upper part of the screen is an icon you can tap to cash out.
