Great, now I don't have an option for training weaker Pokemon unless I want to tediously switch them in and out like the stone ages. That's the fucking problem. There's no middle ground. It's either EVERY Pokemon or NO Pokemon. It's a shitty game design.

The EXP system was perfectly fine in BW. There was no need for them to change it.

In past games you didn't need to the Exp. Share at all and you could easily level your mons evenly on just trainers while still not being too overleveled.

They designed XY in such a way that they EXPECTED you to use the Exp. Share., but your mons end up overleveled and the game is easy. Solution: Just turn it off? See here's the problem with that, if you do turn the Exp. Share off, then the game gets much harder, because you can't evenly level your mons on trainers anymore like you could in the older games, because Gamefreak scaled the trainers expecting you to use the Exp. Share. As a result you end up being underleveled unless you grind on wild mons in every new area.

TL;DR: With the Exp. Share on, you gain TOO much Exp. With it off, YOU DON'T GAIN ENOUGH. Gamefreak effectively removed "normal" mode. You only have "easy" and "hard".

The game felt kinda balanced enough for me. But I used Amie which boosts your experience gain, plus the new mechanics which means that every pokemon that participates in a battle gets full experience rather than splitting it on top of catching mons giving you experience.

It doesn't even need to be removed, what it needs to be is reworked. Have it that pokemon in the back of the party get less experience as opposed to being the second in line.

Need to level up that one pokemon that's, like, six level lower, but have plenty of higher leveled pokemon?No problem. Put that little guy at your number two, and have him get most of the experience.

There's a decent kind of hard where a general smooth gameplay experience culminates in a roadblock like a boss that's supposed to be tough but satisfying to beat, and there's kaizo shit. Do you not play videogames?

Because when I first played through without it the balance was autistic and right after Geosenge the difficulty spiked and continued one step ahead of me the whole game. Being the autist I am I left it off and had to beat the Elite Four with 'mons more than 10 levels below theirs. But turning it on allowed me to breeze through the game rotating 9 'mons in and out of the PC as certain things fell behind. It was balanced terribly.

I played whole game with Exp Share and I finally had time to swap my team and try different Pokemon. And according to the Masuda that was the plan.

They didn't even scale it WITH the Exp Share because if you fight every trainer before the elite 4 you be like 8-10 levels above the E4's mons.

I even did a recent playthrough of Y and even when skipping many trainers, not participating in a single Sky Battle, no exp multipliers and even outright skipping routes, i still ended up either 2 levels above or a level below the E4.

Yeah, Pokemon has always been easy outside of spinoffs and post-game hax, but Gen 6 in ways feels like a drag to go through because of how easy it is. Same thing with Red/Blue (at least Yellow fixed that for the most part, giving NPCs actual competent movesets)

This is the real problem. The Exp Share effectively creates extra exp points that wouldn't exist with it off. Beating every trainer before the E4 with it on overlevels your team, and if you beat every trainer with it turned off, your team is underleveled, because there's less experience to be earned

But I actually do and love SMT
I just like Pokemon's setting more and wish I could have a remotely close gameplay experience.

Ran multiple nuzlockes on X/y to pass the time, found that the balance issue was that if you left turned it on and forgot it, youd never run into issues, where if you left it off, the exp gain was too weak to keep a full team with switch training up to nessicary levels without obnoxious training.

I kept having to come up with shit rules like "well if i turn on exp share then i can only have the weakest three pokes in my team." or "well two weaker mons and one high level to carry through the route/gym while the rest were in the box"

A real definition of unbalance. Too strong if you left it on, stumbly wumbly if you turned it off for good. Cunt needs a middleground mate
