It had lots of scenes I really liked though some parts were odd, like the need to shoehorn in Neo Team Magma/Aqua when just having Archie and Maxie there. Zinnia getting btfo was good, but I'm not sure why they decided to make her even worse than the games.

Honestly, and while I'd hate it happening to the regular games, Pokéspe seems like it would fit better as an action RPG rather than traditional JRPG. The battles are a lot more dynamic than what a turn-based system would reasonably allow, so giving you direct control over the Pokémon you're battling with using movesets that you can change over the course of the game via level-up/TMs/etc. would make it a lot more fitting.

An actual RPG, probably. Because it has stuff like being able to send out multiple Pokemon at once, the trainer physically needing to be part of the battle to ensure they win, etc etc.
