First and foremost, it has to actually look like a pokemon design. So damn many are over-designed (yes, yes, I know) or simply don't match the look or feel of the series. Sure, a monster design can be creative and well-done, but if it clashes with the series, why even call it a fakemon?

Also, this thread is clearly a passive-aggressive response to people no liking that thing's design, and your desire to fuck it.

The only real way to make a Fakemon look nothing like a Pokemon is if you make it a literal human - even the most human looking Pokemon are different enough to be considered merely a human like creature.
That and no over abundance of accessories. A bit of clothing or a weapon is fine, but not a suit of power armor and 5 Gatling Guns like a Digimon.

This topic actually makes me curious about my own fakemon. Pic related is a corsola evo I made for fun (not painted because lazy fuck). Is a reef that can move, and water types live on it.

Does this look like something that could be an actual pokemon? too overdesigned? too simple? "it just gets bigger"? I might want to rethink how I draw these things if I get good arguments/ideas.

Hard to say what makes things 'bad' but what makes a good Fakemon design for me is the same thing that makes a good regular pokemon design:

A good pokemon must balance what animal it is, what theme it's meant to carry, and what element(s) it's typing is.

This is honestly why Kalos starters are some of my favorites.

The biggest issue with Fakemon is that the artists just do not understand the aesthetics behind the designs of Pokemon, the artstyle or the proportions that generally go with them. Some guys just think you slap some random monster but most of the time it just doesn't work at all.
