The gym leader format returns with a looser approach like in gens 1 and 2, allowing for some sequence breaking of the gym order. Instead of a traditional Victory Road, you enter into a bracketed tournament (sort of like Silver Conference from the anime), and must gain a certain amount of points to proceed on to the Elite Four.

After beating the Elite Four and the Champion, you "become" the Champion in a more real sense than in previous games. Once you are the champion, you may enter the Elite Four area at any time and partake in the Champions Challenge, a sort of battle facility mode where you stand in the champions room and beat one trainer after another a la Maison for points. You can put your score on hold at any time but if you lose, you lose the champion title and cannot re-enter the Champions Challenge or use any of the perks of being Champion until you do an Elite Four rematch and take the Champion title back off of the NPC who beat you.

While you're not holding the title of champion, you may set up your own Gym, which involves you creating teams for your gym trainers and creating the layout. Afterwards, a non-stop gauntlet of trainers try to approach you, again like Maison. Your gym trainers stop some trainers from reaching you but you must face off against the ones who do.

In the post-game, you can go back to the Victory Road area to partake in various different tournaments being held with many character cameos in a manner similar to the Pokemon World Tournament.

It'd never happen, but this is what I would want. A Pokemon game with actual mechanics in place for becoming the champion, running gyms etc, and with some elements of the tournament format borrowed from how the anime portrays the leagues. The league system was never really explained very well in Pokemon, it's full of holes if you ever stop to think about how it's set up

Can we get attacking Pokemon looking a little more involved with certain moves, and more fitting animations for it? Like a Pokemon plowing into another with Double-Edge. a big theme for the game: isolation. it's you and raw nature. other people are pretty much exclusively special occasions in the game.

as a result, casual trainer battles are almost nonexistant. instead of them, there is a lot of pre-determined special pokemon battles that you cannot run away from (often several pokemon at the same time and, all of them stronger than random encounters, as well as having random pkmn join mid-battle)

These are all astonishingly bad ideas.

The games can't just repeat the same formula endlessly. Gimmicks are necessary.

I would propose a generation that introduces fusions. Black and white toyed with it and it could be really fun. Perhaps rely on new Pokemon making the fusions as opposed to old.

Other than that and considering the Nintendo is becoming part consol part handheld - the graphics will be more advanced for what we're seeing.

For this reason I think a reboot is best. Something that incorporates the very best Pokemon and ideas and cuts out universally bad designs and ideas.

I'd like to see a reinvention of typings to more accurately fit Pokemon. Rock and ground should definitely become 'Earth'. Normal and fighting could become 'strength' type. That would be a nice twist.

Better yet I think a future game where the player can select which Pokemon can be seen in their file of the game would be advance and historical.

I like the idea of an ultimate pokedex with only the very best Pokemon, but I understand we all have different tastes. I think before starting the game they could create a system where you can select a certain amount of Pokemon that appear in the game. That way it's the pokedex you want. It's the game you want. They could put some staple Pokemon in you can dictate the game to have or not to have - obvious popular ones.

A new stat called Stamina and a new battle mechanic called Fatigue.

Fatigue reduces all Pokemon's stats by a constant after every turn. The reduction reverses one turn's worth after every turn they are not on the field. Fatigue is a greater reduction for Pokémon with low stamina.
