Honestly, you can do this in most games. You can go up against Brock with a Squirtle, Pidgey, Rattata, Beedrill, Butterfree and Pikachu if you like, but who the fuck does that?

It's not okay to have a full diverse team before challenging the first gym, and you know you're not going to use Sunflora and Golduck through the entire game. You are going to catch new Pokemon on your journey and your roster will change, that's how Pokemon is played.

The only issue I had while doing my most recent playthrough was that I had used a lot of the early route mons already on runs. So I went with Sunkern only up until Roxie where I got Magby and Magnemite.
