Besides, he's a victim like everyone else. He didn't do anything illegal, and was manipulated into helping under the guise of doing something good. He wasn't a conspirator, and he attempted to make ammends the second he realized what was going on.

And to be fair, this is Kalos. Destroying Kalos shouldn't be a crime, it's a service to the rest of the world.

What I meant to say was, he realized that he was indirectly responsible for what happened, then directly tried to stop Lysandre and fix everything. He took responsibility.

Lysandre gave him the Mega in exchange for his servitude, and threatened to take it away should Alain underperform. Alain was the one who trained his Pokemon to be powerful. He trained because he wanted to use his power to help others.

It's just like how Ash got a very powerful Froakie from Sycamore, which gained a special snowflake form because plot. And Ash had to work to master it, albeit doing much less work than Alain did to train his Pokemon.

Once he realized that Lysandre was bad, he used the power to fight him. After he helped stop Lysandre, he stopped using it.

Does it matter? He showed he was sorry by fighting Lysandre and trying to stop him, and also saving Manon's Chespin.

If anything, Bonnie and Zygarde are the main heroes. Ash and Alain mostly spent the arc fighting Lysandre together.

Ever since Alain met Ash, he's been praising him and battling because Ash helped him forget his troubles and find momentary happiness. He's always shown appreciation for Ash.

And why would he give his title away. He earned it, Ash thinks he earned it, Diantha and Sycamore think he earned it, and there's no way Ash would take the Championship if offered.

The whole point of his character was that joining Lysandre ruined his life. He's been suffering since before he first appeared.

He's better off now because he's free of Lysandre. He's happy because Ash brought joy into his life, and Alain finally learned that he doesn't need to push people away.

He was suffering because he was manipulated, and because his misguided ideals in protecting others made him isolate himself. But he grew from his flaws and mistakes, and that's why he's better off.

He's saying that Ash should try out for the special Olympics, because he's be undefeatable there.

But considering he beat Ash three times, got the girl and won the League, I think Alain's just telling a white lie to be nice.

Lysandre gave him the ring, but he had to earn the power, master it AND prove himself worthy to keep it.

That power was something he earned, so it's his.

And it's not like Ash did much to earn shit. He got a special snowflake power because the Pokemon he was given just happened to be a special prophecy Pokemon. The only struggle he had was from passing out when using it, and when he became a huge pissbaby after losing to Wulfric. He basically just a huge power-up that, from a meta standpoint, was a freebie he barely deserved.
