Mimikyu being a Totem Pokemon seems kind of underwhelming. And it doesn't seem to have an ability that'd make it a challenge.

Well there's actually other ways to look at this. There was a leak that Guzma, if we do go and make gyms and an E4 after main story which would explain away the low number, would be the last gym leader cause he would like get himself almost killed to save us or something. Well that's if he does survive and doesn't die.

I do want to admit I was wrong about my other theory, it sucks and to me didn't make sense till I realized it.

Ground, Flying, Fighting and Rock make this awkward type square and kinda all tie into the earth and sky if that makes sense (cause it's earthlings vs. aliens)

And the Trial Captains represent like different forms and walks of life, be it living or dead (normal and ghost), being a fisherperson (Lana), herbalist (Mallow), spiritualist (Kiawe), inventor (Sophocles) or leader (Kaihili).

While it's kinda weird, it's not unheard of ,but what if Kaihili is the Trial Captain of Poni Island, but meet her early on at the Golf Resort at Akala? I mean it makes sense given her name relates to royalty, and while alolan meowth and being dark type TC could make sense it would make more sense for her to be the dragon TC (whose type color is ROYAL blue and dragons have long been signs of royalty and dynasties in both the West and the East).

And maybe Guzma you face for a last time in the swamp on Ulaula (him having found out about the Ultra Beasts becoming disparaged whatever) which leads him to save your ass in the climax. Cause it would fit for him to be like a pseudo 7th gym leader cause literally by around the 7th gym in most of the games (like GS, like RSE, like DPPt, and XY) you are facing a team's evil boss.

And given how they revealed potentially the last Kahunas and one of the last Trial Captains in the Demo Trailer it would make sense for them to tell us about those in the October 27th video or info update, with any other mons they may want to confirm, and maybe save Kaihili/Dragon TC's reveal for the actual games.

Hmmm. On one hand, having so many trials for each type did feel excessive as an idea, and there certainly was not enough space for it. On the other, its gonna need one hell of a story, and one hell of a reason, for just seven. Okay its the same size of a normal region, but when considering how things are spaced out, and were everything is located, I just dunno how the hell it can work. Like up till Akala, things are all good, but then UlaUla which alone could be the later half of a Pokemon game only has 2 trials, and then the last bit only has another? The final island is fine desu, as there is likely a lot of story stuff going on there, along with the final confrontation with the legendary, but Ula Ula really makes no sense. If Electric and Ghost are its trial types, then why a giant desert which is perfect for a ground trial? Why the Ice Peak? Like, both Ghost and Electric don't adhere to them being natural places for trials, as they are likely at the power plant and the abandonded store in the south, but the rest ARE natural dungeons, so they could easily have had more trial captains and trials to expand on the whole island exploration thing. Incoherent rant, sk to make it short:
Nothing makes any fucking sense with 7 trials, cause they could easily have 10 natural trial locales and a number of building trials, but they aren't. And I am not even going to wonder why 7 and if z crystal distro will make sense, cause it probably won't.

I like your sensibility 132, cause yes it does and doesn't make sense. In my theory when the number first drop and it was 7 for each island, thought it counted every kind of trial: main trial, SOS trial, and Grand Trial so 2-2-2-1 for each type represented on each island.

And with how sacred the Ice Mountain was and the fact mediumship seems especially sacred throughout the islands thought Ice and Psychic Kahunas, with Flying and Ground being Trial Captains. And you're right on the big island having a smaller number than a smaller island than it, that's why I figured Lana may be on Ulaula instead given there's a whole mini-island chain that could work as her trial as easily as the stacked water basins could on NW Akala.

And while it's odd the power plant does make sense cause with the idea of Sophocles' Totem being Vikavolt, whose line loves being near those thing and there only being one.

Though hopefully ghost girl is in that abandoned tower rather than store or...wait maybe SHE's on the ice mountain. Maybe the reason why it's so sacred and why we can't find her is because she's literally hiding deep in the cavern on top which is well um a catacombs lol.

Another thing, Ten Carat Hill is obviously on MeleMele. If not Trials, then I definitely think in some way the Tapu Four will be fought after the trials, but before the end, as story related bosses. Because of the depowered state of the Emissaries, they will want to test you at some point.
