Not all Wizards are good. Why not go for Fire/Dark while we're at it.

Even fire dark would make more sense. Fairy is not Light-type, it's more like literal fairies

psychic is pretty much the "magic" type of pokemon

Alakazam is based on magicians and it's psychic type, 2/3 lines that gets the magician ability is psychic type, magic room and magic coat are psychic type moves, nearly every pokemon that gets magic guard is psychic type

Dragon-type was made for powerful Pokemon and resists all three starter types as well as Electric. Making a starter Fairy-type would muck up the original attempt at balancing Dragons against starters.

Fairy is more tied to Nature and Folklore than Magic. Otherwise Alakazam would've been retyped to be part Fairy.
