Honestly, I still don't get what they were thinking with this season. Having Ash finally win a major Pokemon League would have been a perfect excuse for him to go to Alola on vacation to celebrate. Then they could have pulled something where his mother secretly enrolled him at a local school, figuring that now that he finally beat a League he should get caught up on schooling.

But that's the thing, they wouldn't have needed to alter the status quo at all. The Alola season would still play out exactly the same, it's just the context that would be different. And in the future he would still want to beat more leagues. They never defined what it means to be a "Pokemon Master", so it's not like Ash's journey would need to end if he won.
