Because if you count all the 8 non-UB pokémon who weren't in the four dexes (Type: Null, Silvally, Solgaleo, Lunala, their two pre-evos, Magearna and Marshadow) you should also include Zygarde since we know he's in the game, making it 294.

I guess we dont know if Zygarde is post game? Then again, SInnoh shows that legendaries dont have to be in the Pokedex.

You guys complaining about the number of Kanto 'mons, didn't they say that Alola was pretty heavily connected to Kanto? You move there from Kanto, Oak's got a cousin there...I dunno, it seems like they're highly connecting Kanto and Alola to me.

Look at the number of Kanto Mons in Kalos and the Kanto references there. And that region is more connected to Hoenn than anything

The only region where Gen 1 doesnt have the most other Mons in a dex besides the new ones is Unova.

In fact, it has the most representation in 4 regional dexes

Sorry, thought my post made it obvious I was only talking about Alola. I do think it's shit that they reuse Kanto mons for just about everything, but I think there might be at least some form of rhyme and reason to why there are so many in the Alola dex.
