>I don't really feel we are running out of material, especially with the series as it’s progressed. We've tried to find more of a fine balance of creatures that may look like they could be typical animals and also more Pokémon based on inanimate objects. I don't feel like we're running out of material or ideas anytime soon, but I think it's the result of trying to find that balance.

There's nothing wrong with them if they're done right

Then again, you can say the same for every other Pokemon
>>
>>29281574
So they are running out of ideas. Good to know Pokemon will probably be dead within the next five years if that's the case. Time to put it out of its misery.
>>
>>29281607
It makes perfect sense lore wise anon. Some human sees a klekfi and invents the key ring, a vanillite and invents ice cream. They aren't just things come to life in game, they're part of a bigger influence

They specifically said that they're not running out of ideas, but I will agree with you that Pokémon has to end eventually.

The question is... when?
>>
>>29281671
ultra beast are them not wanting to get rid of good designs that wouldn't fit as normal Pokemon, so they create the new category "Ultra Beast" and put those good designs that are too abstract or too alien to be standard Pokemon.

>Junichi Masuda: I can't really say too much, because they're development code names. Back in the early days we got a little bit more creative with the development names, but these days it's a lot more plain. Like for example, Crabrawler's code name was just Crab 1. So it wasn't anything special, but I can't really say too much because they were development names

Because GF designing inanimate mons is dicey as fuck in terms of aesthetics, sure some are neat like Chandelure or Gigalith but theyre quite easily overshadowed by cancer like keychain, flower-necklace and fucking anchor/steeringwheel...
>>
>>29281574
Inanimate object pokemon are just as hit and miss for me as any other pokemon.

This gen I love the sandcastles but hate the anchor.
I also love salandit and the starters but hate the feminine fruit and sea urchin.
And Chandelure and Drifloon are great mons despite being a chandelier and a balloon.

>>
>>29281730
>The question is... when?
The same day Mario, Final Fantasy, Legend of Zelda, Call of Duty, Dragon Quest, Kirby, and various others die off.

Pokemon can't just simply 'die off' out of nowhere. Even if it hits a series of rocky paths, it'll still survive. At the most, if it does, it'll just end up having to try more things.

I mean, hell, look at Sonic. That franchise is still alive and kicking with a huge fanbase despite having the most rocky of roads.

Even Mega Man, despite having no substantial games in a long while, is still basically alive thanks to its fanbase.

>Have you ever forgotten the name of a Pokémon?
We definitely forget a lot of Pokémon names quite a bit. One of the reasons for that is while developing the game we call all the Pokémon by code names. So it would be years where those kind of take hold. We often don't remember the final names of the Pokémon. We definitely remember their code names.
>>
>>29282459
>Trump
>respectable
We're all fucked.
>>
>>29282843
That's interesting, and I think might even be a great way to design pokemon. You'd basically know what kind of mon you want/need, but its design can change as much as necessary until the end, and the final name would only be chosen then.
>>
>>29281607
just because they remind you of you doesn't mean they're bad.

>We’ve only seen the original Kanto Pokémon in Alola forms. What's the reason for that?
>Shigeru Ohmori: This is really my first time working as a director on a completely all-new title. Last time, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire was kind of remake of an older title. Also with this being the 20th anniversary, I was just thinking that we have so many fans – long-time fans of the game that have played since the beginning, and I really wanted to have a special surprise for those players. Also for the fact that Pokémon from the Kanto region of the original game are probably the most recognizable among long-time fans. So I really wanted to kind of focus on them and give them kind of them a new take on their appearance to really surprise them. But at the same time, by having the new appearance they kind of look like new Pokémon for a lot of new players who are maybe just getting started with Pokémon. So that was the reason we decided to focus on Kanto Pokémon.

Ohmori's heart was in the right place, but he kinda came up a bit too short.
>>
>>29282197
>Is it based on Trump?
>Are they based on current events, i.e Trump?
>Okay, but it looks like Trump, right?

Should have made a Coconut/Crab-type Kingler which preys upon smaller crabbmons like Crabrawler.
>>
Kinda unreated, but has it been confirmed that SOARING is not in SM, and that Charizard is just Fly?
>>
>>29282985
I just wish there were more alola forms, and not limited to Genwhine either. I don't mind if they focused more on kanto mons, especially with Pokemon Go out and all, but I wish they had at least some alola mons from other gens as well.

As the 20th anniversary of the series, it could have been used as a celebration of all pokemon instead of only red/blue.
>>
>>29281991
>Crabrawler's code name was just Crab 1
As if denialfags didn't already get BTFO'd enough.
>>
>>29283050

>>
>>29281730
I can see it now, it's going to end at exactly 1000 pokemon with half of those after 800 being regional forms for the next gens that are counted as new ones. It will be divided up in a way that allows them to milk out games for gens 8-10.

That really sucks. He did give a decent answer, even though I would have liked it more if he subtly told him to fuck off with that, since ideas are something you can´t really run out of. I don´t get why people keep insisting on that.

>t's the animated series in which the Pokémon are always saying their names like that. I think we decided to do that in the animated series to make it easier for audiences to understand which Pokémon it is. Maybe in that universe the Pokémon starting saying their names first and then humans went, "Oh, okay. That must be your name."
There, actual confirmation by the man himself that the ashnime and games arent the same.

Dumbass, nobody said it had to be all 151 Pokemon given Alola forms. But 18 out of 151 is barely 13% of the Gen 1 roster. If they wanted to bring in some fans who remember some of the mons they would have gone for more or only gave it to the more popular mons. The reasoning seems like a bit of a copout to me.
>>
>>29284868
If I were designing the games I'd probably disallow the Alola variants from mega evolving unless time to properly implement Alolan Megas could be scheduled in and accounted for in the budget. It doesn't seem like a particularly high priority issue and I'd rather focus on giving variants to mons that don't have megas in the first place

Of course he's going to say that. What else would he say?
>Nope, we're totally running out of ideas. Pokemon Sun and Moon are going to be shit, don't buy them.
This is a waste of a question in an interview.

>Back in the early days we got a little bit more creative with the development names, but these days it's a lot more plain. Like for example, Crabrawler's code name was just Crab 1.

I see why the leaked starter art just referred to them as cat, owl and sea lion 3 now

Sit down faggot, I'm gonna tell you how ghosts work.

>Some human sees Mimikya and invents Pikachu
Did you read Mimikyu's entry?
>Mimikyu is a ghost who wants to be loved
>Sees Pikachu have a lot of attention
>Picks a discarded Pikachu cloth and dresses it to be like Pikachu

>Some human sees Palossand and invents both castles and shovel (let's disregard the fact pokedex says shovel is man made)
More like
>Humans make sand castles in the beach
>Ghost realizes this is a good disguise to catch their prey and go unnoticed in a beach
>Suddenly, sand castle ghost

>Some human sees faggot gen 6 sword and invents swords (no one thought of making big knives before that)
Wrong again.
>Humans use swords
>Ghost takes possession of one
>Ghost sword

He would've said "ideas are each time harder to come by". Sugimori himself said he was having artist's block, although this says nothing about the actual ideas the whole team might have.

>inanimate 'mons niche is to be autonomous at some phase

If any of these are your "bros" you're either going to be triggered when I tell you you're the fucking problem or you will see why Masuda thinks it's a good idea to add more.
>Examples
>Magnet 'mons
>Ice Cream 'mons
>Trash 'mons
>Coffin 'mons
>Chandelier 'mons
>Cellular 'mons
>Sword 'mons
>all of the literally-my-mom's-pet-rock 'mons

There are probably some more I'm missing. The fact that Masuda wants to add MORE is a fucking travesty.

It's also why people fucking HATE Gen 5. Add onto the fact that we are now seeing a resurgence of people proclaiming it to be the best gen ever and you can see why it's Gen 5's fault we're getting MORE of the garbage nobody wants.

I love all of the monsters you mentioned, though. Vanilluxe is my favourite Ice-type, Chandelure is my favourite Ghost-type, and Klinklang and Magnezone are two of my favourite Steel-types.

They weren't asked if they were running out of ideas.

>I'm seeing a lot more Pokémon based on inanimate objects like Klefki, the sand castle, and the lei from Sun and Moon. Are you running out of animals?

They were asked if they were running out ANIMALS, not ideas.
>>
>>29283885

Last I checked, the name of the series isn't Pocket Animals. It's Pocket Monsters.

They're not animals. Some of them resemble animals, but they are monsters.
>>
>>29286250
I want to punch your mother, Anon.
>>
>>29281670
That's the exact opposite of how those happened though. Klefki looks like a keyring because keyrings existed and klefki pretends to be one to hide while it steals keys. Vanillite saw castelliacones and saw them as a thing humans liked, so it disguised itself as one so it could get closer to civilization, away from predators.

Which is my biggest gripe with the Vanillite line because that's pretty brilliant, and then its evolutions turn it into full retard ice cream monsters that scare people away by being 3 fucking feet tall ice spikes that freeze things to death

dolphin, narwhal, moby dick and shark pokemon never.

>a ghastly sand castle

That's about 12 or 14.81%, comparable to past generations.
