Things I genuinely like:

The Alola region seems like it will be a lot more interesting and memorable than Kalos
The music is already leagues ahead of the shit we got in Kalos
Alolan Dugtrio
The new bug types

Riding pokemon is so fun that I think bike is redundant at this point to be honest

I like that HMs are finally gone.
This is also the first gen where I like so many designs so much that I have trouble picking my team.
Literally my only problem with the demo is the framerate.

I have a 3DS XL (The limited edition one from when X and Y came out) and the only framerate issue I had was with the Totem battle. Other than that I saw no issues at all, which is great.

-The focus on night/day is nice, I feel like this got neglected a lot since Gold and Silver
-most of the designs are very good compared to the last three gens
-no more HMs
-it actually feels like a 3d game now

In fact Alola brought in so much stuff that I like. The Oricorios are amazing, Minior is one of my all time favorite designs and let me Tell you, I fucking love the Tapus. Loved the concept since Koko's intro and they did not dissapoint with the rest.

And the scene of Expansion coming down only for Koko to crash down in front of it was GOAT. I hope the other Tapus get to do something similar.

I agree on the Z-Moves, not so much on the UBs. I'm interested to see how they tie in to the story!

I'm going to love adventuring in this game. I love all the cliffs and z-axis movement now that the grid system is gone.

The story seems really crazy too, excited for that after XY's boring story.

Only thing that can ruin this game for me is a lack of battle facilities.

That said, I'll reserve judgement until I know why some Alolan Pokemon looks like they do.

Well, design-wise, I do think some of them can be fixed, but that's a matter of taste and the underwhelming official arts.

I actually run the OC threads on Sundays, anon! I decided to put on my trip today because people really seemed to like Seri. I wanted to be energetic to make people's mornings better before I had to bail for class.

Grass is the only starter type that hasn't been making blunder after blunder. Only Chesnaught is a mistake.

Little animation details. How walking through the grass is different and you lean down when talking to children. Seeing your team when you heal at the Pokémon center. Also, I love the island style and aesthetic. There's trainer customization this generation, so I'm really hoping I'll be able to make a chill bro trainer with a Hawaiian shirt, shorts and sandals

Litten3 had SHIT official art but a good model.
Rowlet3 had good official art but a pretty shit model.

I hoped Rowlet3 wouldn't go full Greninja, but retained some owl-ness in its model and only act human when shooting the bow but that got destroyed by the leaks when we learned it's constantly stuck in bow pose.

Right? The black sand beaches were one of the more memorable parts of my visit to Hawaii. I almost wish this could be the normal form but it would be lost on most people.

Palossand's shiny is just one example of my favorite thing about this gen: the amount of love and effort put into the world as a living ecosystem and region. I've seen people describe it as a "biologist's wet dream," and this is one bio teacher who agrees. The different circadian rhythms of Yungoos and Rattata mirrors the introduction of these devastating invasive species in real life: mongoose were brought in to hunt rats but their alternating activity times meant they basically just ended up tag-teaming the native birds. Wishiwashi represents the amazing phenomenon of schooling, the Oricorio forms are a clever and adorable take on the honeycreepers that are endemic to specific islands, and a number of unusual animals like bee flies, coconut and yeti crabs, mata matas, and orchid mantids are represented. I WISH there were more Alola Forms: it's such a great idea with a basis in real evolution and many of them are very well executed.

I also cannot express how happy I am with the Rowlet line. Owls are bar none my favorite animals, and Noctowl is a cool guy but was always a bit bland in the incredible world of Pokémon. Basing them off Barn Owls, giving them elemental powers, a unique theme, and illustrating their personality has brought the line into the ranks of my favorites. Can't wait to see the stats, moves, and hidden ability. Here's to hoping Rowlet3 is at least passable in battle...the subtle signs of possible favoritism give me some hope.

Going back to shinies, I love Rowlet3's. Yeah, it's just the typical "cool black starter" look, but it suits the Pokémon. It looks very similar to the Sooty Owl, a member of the Barn Owl family, but black and white also reminds me of the Snowy Owl, my lifelong favorite.

Personally Im just happy we get to explore the Pokemon World again, I would love more pokemons but I do enjoy the design of the mons this gen.

I actually like all of the starters this time around, the region looks cool, UBs are an interesting concept, their design doesn't even look like pokemons which for me is a nice touch. Alolan forms also breathes new life for old pokes, if only they're not only from gen 1.

This is the first shiny I'm going for once bank is comparable and I can transfer my living dex and get the shiny charm, it's fucking great. And shiny hunting is so easy now with IV training so I just need a good nature and I'm set! I'm excited for IV training and most of the new Pokémon including alola forms. I really like over half the UBs and the others are alright. Sucks they probably won't be breedable because I want shiny expansion.

Almost definitely not. Just take a look at Rowlet and Dartrix, whose leaked "sprites" are posed actively. Rowlet is airborne instead of sitting there like an adorable lump, and Dartrix is throwing feathers. I doubt Rowlet3 is stuck idling in the pose we see now: it's probably an action shot of him preparing to attack used to make the Pokédex portrait more dynamic. I'd bet a few bucks that he'll stand similar to Dartrix or the concept art, occasionally fiddling with his drawstrings or flaring out a wing.

From what I've seen in the demo, Alola seems very alive.

I honestly think this might be my favorite gen yet, simply from a design standpoint.

Sure lack of pokemon is a slight problem, but you can't always have what ya want. Ultra beasts look good, the tapu line is good, the legend Prevos are cute. I just feel like this gen has more "energy" coming off of it then gen 5-6

I'm really excited for this gen, my hype has only been intensified. I'm just excited for the region itself -- Trial Captains are a refreshment from the standard gyms and Totems seem like they could be pretty challenging. The postgame search for the Zygarde cores could be fun.

If anything, everybody here likes Pokemon. They might not like what it's become, but they have liked or do like what it was. That's just how things are. As for me? I've a habit of seeing the good in everything. It's just how I am. It's why most days I trip, I want to be positive.

I like how cohesive the whole thing feels. At first it just felt kind of ridiculous, like "Oh ha ha it's another Hawaiian thing" but they stuck with it and EVERYTHING is Hawaiian (aside from UBs but we'll find out what is up with those eventually) and now that most of the information is out there, I've got to say it gives it a really nice charm that all the previous gens lacked.

I also think they did a really good job with shinies this gen. (I wanted to hate the sandcastle, goddammit.)
