Believe it or not, it's not a case of being incompetent at programming. Gamefreak tried to be smart and made all the models with a ridiculously high polygon count, probably so they can reuse those skeletons for generations to come, at best only updating their textures.

While that IS smart as a long term goal, it's retarded for a handheld this weak, which is why we have FPS issues with two models on screen.
