Hello internet and welcome to Game Theory.

My theory is that Persian purposefully looks like it has Down's syndrome. Think about it, it was said that Meowth looked the way it does on purpose, that the Alolan royal family bred them to look this way.

Unfortunately they can't control what it looks like when it evolves and due the inbreeding that animal breeding requires, the chromsome imbalance is plain for all to see. It's a statement on dog and cat breeding.

Don't ask me about Dugtrio, that shit is weird.

It was breed by a monarchy. It's a culmination of stereotypes about nobility such as being a snob and being inbred while still being a cat which takes even more stereotypes from cat breeds and the fact that genetic traits are picked and chosen while not always appealing. It's better than recolored persian like everybody for some reason wanted, but it's still a pretty bad design. They could've changed the body model a bit more, but I think a description like all the previous mons got would really make or break it.

Was thinking it might be a play on royal inbreeding too. Breeding only with the elite to keep the bloodline pure, leading to some deficiencies.

I prefer it to a recolour too, I just wish the rest of it reflected the change. It looks like its enormous head is just floating in front of its body.
