The pushing in the anime was already more than any other ship, but that doesn't the promoting Ash/Serena got outside of the anime as well. Of course, it was mostly about how much Serena loves Ash but still. They really didn't need to shove it down everyones throats that much.

Guys this is the same way Pokeshippers acted when Misty left in 2002. We're basically repeating their mistakes. People have even been making petitions for Serena to return like they did with Misty a decade ago.

Arcus forbid they actually advance the storyline by having Ash win a league, or have relationships actually develop past the crush stage as if everything is suddenly over the second someone confesses.

I don't know why they insist on this arrested development when tons of other anime that's just as much aimed at kids can and does have those elements.

But since the anime is in a prepeutal state of building up then rebooting just before things get serious why should I give a hoot hoot what's cannon or not?

Wonder what's the relationship between Ash and Sun. It's cool how Sun is from Kanto, so he and Ash are probably close friends. Since the letter was from Kanto, I assume he's not travelling to Alola and perhaps he hasn't been able to travel to other regions like in the anime. This could mean that game Ash's adventures are completely different from his adventures in the anime.

What if gameverse Ash is the new Kanto Champion? If he's stuck in Kanto as the champ, that could explain why he isn't going to Alola because of champ business.

Ash is confirmed to exist in the games, and there's a lot they could do with that. Imagine a pokemon rpg that's more story driven or traditional like FF, DQ, or SMT but with Ash. More importantly, it could mean that Ash will appear in PokeSpe.

There was nothing to ever indicate Ash and Serena getting together was blocked. It was probably never intended for them to get together in the first place. The promotion just had fun with ship teasing them and promoting Serena's crush, and in universe, her crush on Ash was used to help her come into her own (in addition to being used for cute entertainment).

Well the anime hasn't stayed the exact same.

That's why they swapped out some of the cast and tried to do a hard reboot in Best wish's but failed.

Sticking to the status quo for the end of XY&Z was the biggest mistake they could have made since they are trying to do another hard reboot with Sun and moon.

But if the only thing you can do to change is move backwards and regress you've failed. After 20 years don't you think it's time the anime grew up a little instead?

I hope this winds up being the case, because if it is we're going to be end game for Pokemon.

Once they decide to age Ash there is no going back. An Ash who ages would retain everything he's learned from the past, resets wouldn't make sense anymore.
