The Dex wasn't X and Y's problem.
The Dex was actually quite nice, a good amount of good and new Pokemon while still having the option to go with older Pokemon you like. I think the real problem of these games was how easy they were and how empty the region seemed. And I see these problems seem to have been fixed with Sun and Moon while maintaining the good Dex system.

Honestly the first gen I've absolutely hated. Only a handful of good mons, and everything else about this game I despise. Z-Moves, Alola forms, the Hawaiian theme, it's all terrible.

Where to start? How about the Hawaii setting? There's no subtely involved, and it gets old really fast. There's too many mons that are meant to coincide with the Hawaiian theme, but then when you have mons that clearly don't fit in a tropical environment, they just look grossly out of place, like Bewear.

Alolan forms are just straight-up pandering to the Gen I crowd. They look disgusting and don't serve any purpose.

There is an overall decline in the quality of design of Pokemon. The proportions of half these mons are so out of walk I don't even know what they're supposed to be. Yungoos and Pikipek are perfect examples of what I mean, when you compare them to Rattata and Pidgey.

Mons that don't fit their environment have always been a thing; there's no doubt about that. While Bewear definitely doesn't fit in, Pokemon that don't fit in have been such a frequent reoccurring thing that it's not that much of an issue personally. I mean, in the Pokemon world, there are penguins in Japan and pandas in France! And luchadors in Stonehenge in France. And now koalas in Hawaii.

I cannot argue with you about Alola forms; they do seem to be "pandering" to the gen 1 crowd. But I see them more as a "re-imagined" version. As for looking disgusting, well, I guess that's your opinion, and that's ok.

But this last one is something I can't overlook. Proportions are definitely out there, but Pokemon itself was never that realistic, so what gives? Pokemon is changing, just like art. Lots of Pokemon in this gen fall victim to having a lot of style but neglecting basic anatomy and having strange geometry. Shit like Crabrawler's legs and Bewear's lack of any structure are prime examples of this, as thinking about them it's hard to grasp how they work. It's also stuff like Gumshoos, Passimian and Oranguru which have relatively realistic proportions. I feel like a lot of your distastes will be fixed by getting used to 3D models; stuff like Tsareena and Drampa that have weird art may look a bit stronger in game.

About the Hawaiian theme, I personally love that GF is sticking to a central theme for once. Being in discount New York and seeing a cactus and a flying squirrel never really immersed me. But hey, opinions, and I can see where the theme gets a bit overbearing.

Overall, I really love this gen. Its really appealing to my tastes, which is making it hard to pick a team of only 6 mons. I honestly can't say I completely despise any pokemon this gen. ( I only dislike Comfey for the fact that its gonna be a trade of the mark cute shitmon that won't evolve and is just there to fill the dex. )

Just to inform anyone, I'm extremely strict with my rankings. 4/5 are pokemon I really like and will probably be using. 5/5 is perfect design. And the Pokemon on 2/5 I still like, just not greatly. Only 1/5 are the designs I don't really care for.
