The Remaining Trial Captains and Kahuna Type Specialities

12 trial Captains, 4 Kahunas and Aether and Guzma teach you the last 2.

Okay, I have a map of Ula'Ula Island saved, so I'll probably post it as an avatar.

Looking closely, we can safely say that Ground, Ice, and Psychic are the safest bets to put on that island due to the desert, icy mountain, and the observatory (the latter has historically been associated with Psychic-types in general). I'm gonna assume that shady town occupied by Team Skull will not have a Trial Captain. Instead, I'm gonna make a separate assumption and say that that town is the original home of the island Kahuna, and his/her signature Pokémon is Alolan Persian. Moreso, this Kahuna might actually even have some sort of relationship to Team Skull in some way, shape or form. The fact that Alolan Persian appears to being kept incredibly close under wraps leads me to assume it's role in the game is quite significant.

If there's only one more type, then I suppose it could be either Bug or Flying (or even both). Especially if the possibility is that Poni Island is home of the Dragon, Steel, Ghost, and Fairy-type specialists. Maybe even Poison if that's what Marshadow's gonna be.

Was it ever confirmed that Sophocles is on Akala? He was only shown indoors

He has that weird emblem that is identical to the other three Captains of Akala, and is believed to be housed inside the lighthouse. I would also like to add in too that Sophocles might actually be the Bill of this generation as well as the Trial Captain. So meeting him on Akala Island would be par for the course as far as pacing is concerned in unravelling the identity of the PC guy.

I really do not understand the whole "Guzma will give you the Z-Crystal thing," especially since the leak that started this was already proven to be fake. It's possible, but I'm not counting on it.

I do like the idea of the Aether Foundation giving you a Z-Crystal. However, I always had the idea that Lusamine would likely be the Island Trial Champion and that she would be the final boss of the game. She simply has the air that all past champions have had, and it seems to strongly reflect it in her appearance.

Ilima hhas that symbol too. Don't get me wrong, I want to believe Sophocles is Akala mainly to debunk the "only 7 trials" theory (since that would leave only one captain on the other islands, which seems extremly unlikely), but as it is now there's no concrete proof Sophocles is in Akala

Two separate reviews said seven trials per island (one of which quickly retracted the statement after realizing that it wasn't public knowledge yet). Strangely, it also listed the final Kahuna battle one each island as one of the trials. My guess is that there's three Captains per island, and they each give two trials, making 12 Captains and 4 Kahunas.

That's also a fairly decent point. The problem I have is that Hala's Pokémon are about level 15, and after 2 hours of gameplay from Gamexplain's sneak peak of the game, they only got their Pokémon to level 12 when they first met Team Skull and they still could reach Ilima.

The only way this makes sense is if you have to revisit the two missing Trial Captains of Melemele Island later in the game. Which seems counter-productive to say the least.

Also, given that these reviewers never really played the full game, I have to question the validity of their statements when they said "seven trials," even with the inclusion of the Kahuna Battles. It would also be incredibly odd to reveal Sophocles alongside the other three Captains on Akala Island when he has nothing to do with Akala. I suppose we'll have to wait and see when they start revealing the Ula'Ula Island Trial Captains as well as Poni Island's (which might be made known only in the post-release).

Sophocles seems to have some sort of important role in the anime so they could've just revealed him with the rest of the cast.

I still do not think we're going to be having more than Ilima as a Trial Captain on Melemele Island--we would have had another Trial Captain revealed by this point otherwise (but I'll give TPC the entire rest of the month to fill in the blanks). If we do get another Trial Captain on Melemele Island, however, I do believe it will be a Bug-type specialist. There doesn't appear to be any geographical location anywhere else in Alola in which a Bug-type specialist makes a whole ton of sense. Perhaps s/he's a Kahuna, but who knows?

Well, A LOT of them mentioned 7 trials. I can believe 1-2 of them made a mistake, but all those people making the same exact mistake? It's either 7 Trials in tota lor 7 per island

Perhaps the trial captains will become gym leaders and the kahunas will become elite 4 post game. 7 trial captains and Guzma will add up to 8 gym leaders for a complete league.
