I wouldn't be surprised if it's easy to overlevel based on the number of things to do before reaching the end of the second island, especially based on the fact that the reviewers didn't even finish the first island let alone the trials.
Has me a bit worried so I'll probably try to expand my team as much as possible early on.

If we assume that each Trial ends with a Totem Battle, and each island has 4 Trials and 1 Kahuna, that means Olivia is basically Gym Leader #10 out of 20. So it seems like the level curve is going to be like all the other games, where the final Gym Leader's ace is around Lv. 50, which would put Olivia right at the middle like she is.
Not really a curve, though, more like a straight line. But it has always been like that.

It sounds more like it's gonna be three trails per island, since one of the previewers let it slip that there were seven per island and facing the totem Pokemon at the end counts as a separate task for some reason (the Kahuna battle is the seventh).
