Courtney's voice actor is exactly why english dubs tend to be shitty, god damn. Those pauses were unnecessary, the same tone without any change was unappealing, and the lack of any crazy was painful.

Also, "Leader Maxie, Sir!" sounds absolutely stupid. Just using "Sir!" is enough. We don't need his name thrown every single time he's being spoken to.

Godzilla Groudon was great, though.

Given the budget and time constraints, unless they're like Ghibli or something, they can't really afford to animate to the voices, as they can't necessarily afford re-takes for the same episode/project, or have the time to call the seiyuu back in. I disagree, in some respects. I love Richard Epcar, and his performance as "Ansem" is really good.

But Billy Zane put so much passion and dare I say heart into his performance that I believe that he truly believes every thing he's saying about darkness. Sometimes Epcar's performance seems a bit stilted (especially when he becomes Terra-Xehanort) and it's clear that Richard Epcar has a voice where you know he's voicing a bad guy.

The way Zane says "Do not deny your fear" and how he portrays most of his lines makes it really sound like "Ansem" is this fanatical zealot of darkness, a little smarmy at times, but it all sounds so natural. Someone who truly believes in darkness to the bitter end. There are times where Epcar just sounds like a typical, deep voiced overlord. Which does work, I'm not saying it doesn't. I think what is also notable is that when Epcar replaced Zane he was told to try and emulate or replicate his performance, but he eventually molded his own performance. Overall I do like Zane better but Epcar's still pretty good.
