For a fairy/dark mon they could use one of the various fairies that have creepy backstory/way to be like trolls/changelings/goblins/etc. There is a nice variety out here, i dont know why they didn't use that already

I suppose you don't know how Baba Yaga works, right ? The first two stages are supposed to be the witch, but the third is the house with chicken legs, but instead of literally turning into a house it still stay a bird and gains a look similar to Yaga's house. It's a 10/10 design and I'm sad it's not real.

Baby sprite that is plain Fairy. Evolves into a Grass/Fairy that looks like a typical fairy with a flower motif, or a Dark/Fairy pixie that looks like an evil version of the fairy, brambles instead of flowers or belladonna flowers, or something similar.

It wouldn't need to be that exactly, no, but Baba Yaga's concept is so cool- just making her a bird is super disappointing and a waste. I'm not saying she can't look like a bird, but a straight up bird is stupid. I was thinking a two stage evolution, the final one being, like, a mismagius type thing, with a bird face, half balanced on a stick that looks like a bird claw. I have an appointment in ten minutes, but give me an hour and I'll draw it.

Honestly, its silhouette (minus the head) looks like a house with chicken legs. Plus the way the feathers drape over the neck also makes it look like a doorway.
