Pretty much this. Jibanyan has fuckton of clones, but they're all pretty much better than him and have a decent reason for existing. Pikaclones never really strive for anything higher than Pikachu, and are mostly pointless outside of tradition at this point.

I think it's fair to say Jibanyan was whored out at a much faster, and perhaps "undeserved", pace since it had clones in the initial game before it even took off as a mega-hit thanks to the show and YW2.

Jibanyan having variants is a non-issue to anyone who is not a rabid Pokemon fanboy bent on shitting on any signs of competition for Pokemon. All its variants are good and creative, except for the ones tied to promotions with some shops (gems and fruits).
