Actually its about context

Pure starters are welcomed because they're elementary concepts for beginners and fundamental to learning the core mechanics and strategy of battle. They're generally considered the opposite of plain when compared to normal, ground, rock, flying etc. You could could argue water being plain but in a water/grass/fire context not so much. A fire/fighting concept is stale in the starter trio context, its redundant and overdone. Plain typings in this context aren't because they're basic elementary principles as a representation of the trio. People want a little variety if they favor one typing over the other in the trio. Its as simple as that, favoring, admiring, or being biased whatever the case may be due to either move preferences, strategy preferences (poison moves, giga drain etc) or just liking a type, people want variety in what they preference not the same redundant concept in context.

Frankly if it is real and it's not Fire/Fighting it will probably be useless as it's theme would require it to learn a bunch of fighting moves anyway. Probably leaving it with a garbage move pool for it's type and the worst starter final evo this gen in terms of viability.

At this point the best people can hope for IS that it's yet another Fire/Fighting bipedal borefest rather than a useless sack of crap with a slightly different typing and an awful moveset for that typing.

People want variety....yet they accept pure types being repeated. There's no excuse for us to have them in the first places. They had 14 other types to "fuse them" with in the first place, making new combinations that don't exist even today. Having them once is a thing, more doesn't justify it. Blastoise was fine, but there was nothing stopping them from making Feraligatr Water/Dark.
