Man the alolan sandslash art really irks me, the arm just ends up looking like an artist pasted it on the wrong place rather than a design choice. It looks better on the model, but it still looks stupid as shit to have part of the arm frozen in ice, it shouldn't even be able to move its arm except for the part beyond its elbow.

Anyways, can someone please explain to me why people like Type: Null. I don't like the starters, dogs or django but I can see why people do, I just really don't understand the appeal of Type: Null. I might warm up to it if the chimera parts actually end up being elements of other pokemon, but right now it just looks a mess

Also I know we don't know the availability/distribution of pokemon and so this is really a fantasy team thread, but Type: Null really blatantly hits me as a gift-mon at (or near) the end of the main story or post-story.

As for the evolution thing I wouldn't get my hopes up for Crabrawler or Mimikyu.

Well, let's go back a bit. When I was a kid, it didn't take me too long to realize that I liked Normal-types. Lickitung, Snorlax, Kangaskhan, Castform, maybe some others. It was partly because they had such diverse movepools. (How does Lickitung use shit like Ice Beam?) You can see how that's reflected in TN, of course. And it's of a type that I've always liked, so you're off to a good start just in the concept.

Now look at the basics of its design. It's canine - a personal preference that results from how I get along so well with dogs. Second, it has that weird mask thing. I'm not actually sure why I like this; I'm not a fan of shit like huge fangs or tusks. But something about how TN's face is concealed really gets me interested.

Now, the finer details. In particular, look at the way visual noise is distributed across its body. Lots of detail in the front, not so much around the body. Because its chest and shoulders are hidden under its frilly thing, it looks like it's not actually all that muscular - like its power is, in pokémon terms, special instead of physical. (This relates back to how it's a normal-type that learns some weird elemental moves.) A notable exception is the purple thingers on its hind legs, which prevent it from looking like a literal pushover.

And, the colors! First, notice how all the colors are a little grayer and darker than usual. That makes it look less cartoony. Second, the two greens and the blue-and-purple are similar, but clearly not the same. This helps make the entire design feel connected, yet still chimeric.

Some more minor details. First, you can easily tell which parts of TN are and how they connect to each other, even though it's supposed to look sewn-together. In constrast, I had a really hard time figuring out what Tapu Koko and Turtonator actually look like, and they're supposed to look cohesive! That shit triggers me. So, I much prefer TN.

Second, look at its knees. See how it has them? While I don't mind that _some_ pokémon have noodley arms (see: Meowstic,) I also like that some 'mons - especially one with such a dark backstory - look more like real animals.

Also, think about said backstory. The idea that someone would try to make an all-typed pokémon is an interesting plot point, and it leaves enough questions open that it really piques my interest. You think Cubone was memorable because of its lore? I'd argue that TN blows it out of the water.

I won't deny that there's a certain edginess to it that I like. It's unnatural, its creators (seemingly) think it's a failure, it covers up its face and tries to look stronger than it is. I wouldn't want every pokémon to try to appeal to this part of me, but I like that this one does.

tl;dr: Combination of good concept, good execution, and a couple personal biases.
