I dunno. It doesn't really make sense for a water strider to turn into a winged insect, but I do like the whole "fake angry eyes" aspect, and how they used Intimidate to tie that into the game. But yeah, there wasn't much reason for the odd evolution.

Pokemon can't have three types. Masquerain's strength isn't water. In fact it can't even fucking stay out in water because it hinders its ability.

I've always hated this thing. The concept is not enough to make me like it and it isn't even a clever concept.

How does it fly with those wings? How does it balance itself with its fuckhuge antennae? Why's it shaped so weird?

I get what they were going for, the face yadda yadda. It doesn't work.

I hope they eventually take the face camouflage concept and apply it in a better way to a better bug.

Mayflies mature that way. Masquerain was shown in a settei being able to skate, which mature mayflies can still do. Then there's other features that are reflected in Masquerain's design, like a lack of functioning mouth and flying in helicopter patterns.
Mayfly swarms are so dense, they even masquerade as rainstorms on doppler.

Ice beam is also pretty legit.
Masquerain has a godly movepool and good ability, it just needs to have stats.

Just used her for a Rutile Ruby playthrough, for a Drew themed team, it's not even better than Butterfree and that's saying something.

Why they thought we needed 2 Bug/Flying types in the same region, both obtainable early on is beyond me.

I used one in my recent playthrough of Ruby and it saved my team in the battle against Drake, with intimidate on his dragon types + blizzard
