Gotta remember to grind yourself 5 levels between every city. After Ecruteak you can go three different ways onto different roadblocks, so all the encounters for those zones are way underleveled to what they would be in a linear progression.

Trade in your team, the boosted exp helps fix it.

People who complain about the HGSS level curve and how they need to grind must really suck at Pokemon.

You do realize NPC Pokemon are basically 10 levels less than they appear, right? Since they don't have proper EV training? I beat every HGSS under leved without grinding.

HGSS level curve is totally fucked.
Once you get past Morty's Gengar bullshit the game is a complete cakewalk with leaders barely improving on the previous ones level-wise
And then Clair comes along and wipes the floor with you

Just don't be a faggot with MUH FULL ROSTER, have 3 or 4 mains and a couple HM slaves. If their movesets are varied enough you can just sweep with a few overleved mons.

I didn't find HGSS's level curve bad, I just saw it as more experience to level up my Pokemon.

I Got my shit handed to me in Black/White post game while heading to Undella. We was overleveled during the course of the game but when the credits rolled and the rest of Unova opened up, I was ridiculously underleveled.

This also happened in W2 but while heading to Nuvema town, almost got my ass handed by Bianca, fucking Bianca.

I actually enjoyed getting beat by Cynthia since I she never gave me trouble in Diamond.

In BW Got my shit wrecked by Cynthia in Undella so many times, fuck that Garchomp.

It's funny because playing XY now I am underleveled yet people like to complain about muh experience share.


This just goes to show we all have different experiences.

I got a Tysplosion too that knew Shadow Claw and I pretty much spammed it on Clair.

It worked for me because of the high Crit. Ratio and it was holding a Razor Claw.

I also battle every npc I can before moving on.

Like in Goldenrod with the three sisters that are hidden and before going to Cianwood I went east and battled all the people over there.

By the time I got to red, Tysplosion was 97 or 98,
Can't remember.

In short, It beat the living shit out of anything it looked at, including Red's Pokemon.

You can. I beat him with 50s although I used the most pathetic way imaginable by defeating his Lapras and stalling the rest of his mons until they were defeated by the Hail.

GameFreak explained it that the effort values of trainer pokemon are basically (512 / 6)*(level/100) in every stat whereas IVs are 31*(level/100), except special trainers in which they have all 31IVs.
EVs are probably still treated as normal, which means a level 60-something trainer will have stats roughly 11 or 12 points higher than uninvested.

The problem with the HGSS level curve is that the game scales three Gym leaders all as if theyre your fourth badge.

There is no actual reason to battle Chuck, you can skip his gym until after you finish the Lighthouse sidequest and then battle Jasmine. Or you could do the lighthouse sidequest and then head on out to Mahogany and do the lake of rage thing. Even after battling a bunch of level 30 rockets, and your rival once or twice, at this point you could easily be low enough to struggle with Red Gyarados. Since they intended you to be able to do this, they made it impossible to fuck this up.

And then Kanto's trainers were scaled to be strong enough to put up a fight against someone who beat lance, but the wild 'mons were scaled like they were in gen 1.
