Who's the most rewarding pokemon to train and why is it Magikarp?

Feebas. Harder than Magicarp, better rates.

By the time you can evolve Feebas you don't give a shit about it anymore.
If you bother with the 500 bucks Magikarp in gen1 instead you get a powerhouse for the whole game.

Magikarp is clearly weak on purpose, but you never have to deal with it unless you do it on purpose. Sticking with Zu "Every Fucking Cave" bat and having it turn into a fucking badass is much more rewarding.
