Something I don't get with Pokémon is how many of each legendary there are.

On one hand we get episodes like this surely telling us there is only 1 Ho-oh and 1 of each of suicune, entei and raikou.

And there should only be one Mewtwo as well.

But then we get a movie with a different Mewtwo and in other sources you see them talking as if there were many of all the legendaries.

In the anime, there are multiples of nearly every legend, aside from the highest echelon. The games just gloss over the subject most of the time. You just kind of have to pay attention to what Pokemon are legendary because they're unique and which ones are legendary because they happen to have legends about them.
