>>

the manual with the game has a braille alphabet at the back
>>
>>28978678
You weren't, considering the fact that they thought children could interpret visual braille

By reading the instructions in-game, with a braille guide.

And blind people wouldn't even be able to translate for you since it's a on a screen
>>
>>28978715
Did the localized versions come with the alphabet as well? It's been years and years and I don't remember and don't own the games anymore.
>>
Wait, fuck. Wasn't there an actual braille alphabet in-game as well? It didn't show which letters were what, but it had them all arranged in the alphabetical order so you could make your own guide.
>>
>>28978723
Yeah, in the first room of the Sealed Chamber.
>>
>>28978720
Yes, but they were integrated into the manual.
>>
You just had to remember the Braile that was listed in the game (at the place that had all the letters listed in alphabetical order), assuming you knew it was in alphabetical order.

Then, you had to apply that knowledge at the 3 places where you fight them. Simple, really.

This game box is amazing btw.
>>
>>28978678
It really wasn't that hard. The braile key was in the same room, or one over. I just got a pen and paper out.
>>
>>28978728
There you go, anyone who was smart enough to try deciphering shit could do it then even if they didn't have the manual with the braille alphabet.
>>28978740
>assuming you knew it was in alphabetical order.
Why wouldn't it be? After transcribing what seemed to be like the alphabet, if you compared the letters with the ones from the other places you'd eventually get to the messages like DIG HERE and such, and then realize that they were indeed in the alphabetical order.
>>
>>28978678
Honestly, unlocking the Regis was fucking fantastic. They looked weird as fuck compared to other Pokémon and actually unlocking them all was a fun process. It was like a treasure hunt.

I wish more legends were encountered in this way.

I think the regis were an attempt to capture the glitchy parts of gen 1 and 2 without intentionally making them gamebreakingly buggy. If you think about the mew glitch you had to perform a very specific set of tasks that would be hard to believe at first and you wouldn't be able to figure them out without pure luck or by word of mouth. The regi trio are similar and were possibly the result of gamefreak realising that these kinds of rumors and hunts contributed to RBY's popularity
>>
>>28978788
are you retarded? it's just slightly abstract english letters
>>
>>28978788
It was also just simple puzzles iirc
>>
I think i was in 7th grade when i played gen 3, was pretty easy to figure out once you put together the room with 26 carvings is the english alphabet, i fucking loved doing this
>>
>>28978732
I actually looked for that and the manual only have this related to braille thing
>The world of Pokémon is a vast and mysterious place with many hidden wonders. If you happen upon a place where there is writting on the walls, but you can't read it, think about something that might help you solve the puzzle... it might be Braille. If you are unable to search out the answers you need, remember that you can always contact Nintendo for help on your journey.

>Regigigas in ORAS
>>
>In Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, the player is able to encounter Regigigas in the Island Cave after capturing all three Legendary titans. To do so, the player must have a nicknamed Regice holding a "cold item" (a Casteliacone, a Never-Melt Ice, an Icy Rock, or a Snowball), as well as Regirock and Registeel in their party. Regigigas cannot be encountered during nighttime.
Regis are just made to fuck with you in as many ways as possible.
>>
>Regis were this crazy adventure

Where did all go so wrong?
>>
>>28978678
By not being stupid. I was 5 and still found them.
>>
>>28978878
I feel like they did it intentionally to make fun of all the fake rumors that ran rampant at the time.
>>
>>28978879
But the question is, why do you have to nickname Regice and give it something cold just to summon Gigas?

This. The way the Regi trio was handled is how it should be for all legendaries. Not many NPCs reference them and they were actually somewhat difficult to find, making them mysterious and intriguing. Much more interesting than "Whoa it's _____, you better go fight it and save the world because you're the player!"

>>
>>28978934
I remember trying to find them in R/S back then, it was really cool, one of my best experience with pokemon games.
>>
>>28978923
Snowpoint temple was where you originally found it. They could've made it a little more obvious as to what you needed though, but I think an npc mentions something for it? Can't remember.
>>
>>28978678
As a kid I found the chamber but couldn't get any further as I couldn't read Braille. I could dive and dig as an intelligent guess. From playing in the Battle Tower after the game, I saw the Regis which I then linked to the sealed chamber. Keep in mind I didn't watch the show so I didn't know of them until that and I played on an emulator so I didn't have the game's manual. Still though, it was pretty cool uncovering the whole thing for the first time. Same for the Sky Tower
>>
>>28979009
I don't think anybody in the game mentions something about it. Or they might have, and I just missed it.

By looking up a Braille alphabet, there was one in the back of my dictionary. Dead simple.
>>
My game didn't come with the guide. Pretty horrible thing really. I half translated it using an old book about codes, but I guess the difference in country of origin meant that the braille was slightly different.
>>
not to be a nostalgia fag but honestly, good ole days where game freak didn't casualize their shit and nowadays we have fucking Masuda saying shit like 'oh no mobile babbies will cry at difficulty''
>>
>>28978678
The back of the game's manual had the braille alphabet. Even if you lost that, the full alphabet was written in the sealed chamber.

I still think gen 3 was the last time they had any remotely good puzzles in the series. It's a shame that they dumbed it down even further after that.

I always thought the experience would get better in later gens. But I skipped thr 3ds gens, what happened in those gens? Legitimately curious.
>>
>>28978678
It was way better back in this time, than now.
You have had a booklet, which gave you some information you used in the game to deciver the writing and then you did, what it said you should do.
>>
>>28978834
I was about to ask why they would stop doing this since that is a correct assumption if the case, but then I realized that if it really was their intention they'd have kept doing it.
>>
>>28979613
Gen 4 had a crapload of legendary events. Like proper, fleshed out and scripted events, but they were largely gated behind event items to trigger them that they never ended up giving away, which sucked. It removed a lot of the puzzles, but the events made them feel a bit cooler. A combination of both would've been perfect, but they just gave them away as downloadable mons instead.

They stopped doing complex legendary encounters in original titles because they think most kids wouldn't figure it out and putting stuff like that in would be a waste of resources. Someone at gamefreak (I forgot who) has gone on record saying this is the reason that they backed out of the Arceus event in D/P/Pt

Especially annoying because Arceus's quest is referenced in the first 2 seconds of the opening cinematic, showing that it was very clearly meant to be a major story point.

Everything in 5 was "walk in a cave there it is" except the roaming genies.

Everything in XY was walk in a slightly longer, more loopy cave except the bird, which was roaming 2.0, slightly improved but still annoying.

ORAS has hoops rings, which came in two flavors: land on an island there it is and bullscat unlock conditions not hinted anywhere, ergo, no puzzle to solve, just something you're supposed to look up or guess at and get lucky.

>most legends are now "special event" hand outs

End me

Braille alphabet in the manual.

>Heck, I beat the elite 4 before realizing pacifilog was a place
Same. I dunno why, but I somehow never bumped into the entrance for the long road that leads to pacifidlog. I knew there was a town there because of the map,but took me a long ass time to find, and I think I only got there by accident when I was fucking around with dive spots

>>28980198
Seriously though, fuck whoever decided to just give away the legendaries starting Gen 5. Getting a special item and unlocking the event was so much cooler

>DS had no WiFi during gen IV
>I will never enjoy the joy of obtaining an item that unlocks an event
Suffering.

There are a few Countries that -just- recieved their shipments of Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire. Not Emerald, not ORAS. The actual versions, and the players have been eagerly awaiting them since the last batch of games they recieved almost two and a half years ago.

They have no internet and limited phone support due to their desolate or isolated conditions. They will have absolutely no idea how to finish and no way to call for support and unless they have someone in their village who is blind and recieved some sort of braille support -- there is literally nothing to go by.

These players will someday be true Pokemon Masters.

What's this Arceus event you guys are talking about? Was there a way to get one without the Azure flute?
>>
>>28984832
Pretty sure they're just referring to the Azure Flute/Hall of Origin event.
>>
>>28984905
I injected the item into a gamestop distribution rom. Shit was cash.

>you can always contact Nintendo for help with your journey
damn I completely forgot about shit like this
>>
>be stupid kid
>buy sapphire
>read the manual because why not
>"why do they even have a braille translation"
>play game
>months later get to the cave and find braille
>remind the manual
>translate and follow the leads
>???
>profit
>>
>>28984905
My memory is foggy but dont you just use the flute and go up some stairs? Was there a quest?
>>
>>28979031
To be fair there's a lot more hints towards the regis. With Arceus it's just using the flute at spear pillar.
>>
>>28978678

I found them without a guide and internet.

I had a set of those 27-volume encyclopedias as a kid and used that kek

one of the more satisfying memories of my youth
>>
>>28978678
Man they should do more shit like the regi quests. You really feel like the battle with them was a reward. too bad GF made them suck.
>>

The nips hated Mt Coronet too. I expect it to be gimped in a remake.
>>
>>28978694
Man, I totally forgot about that. I can't even remember if I did used that or just looked it up.
>>
>>28989731
it wouldn't be so bad if you didn't have to go through the damn place so many times.
>>
>>28979458
In his defense. Pokemon is a kids game.
>>
>>28990156
I loved it just fine as a kid at the difficulty it was at.

If modern kids can't handle what I could handle when I was their age, then modern kids are pussies.

Mt Coronet is literally the reason why Unova is a fucking circle
>>
>>28990556
>Unova
>>
>>28990556
It's the reason Kalos was designed the way it was too. It's easy to get lost the first time through. Even at 16 I had some problems with it. First time I had ever struggled during the main game. Though I always got lost in Seafoam.

Fuck, I loved Mt Coronet. It just seemed so huge and full of adventure.
