But in order to swim in water, it needs to have a similar density, or it WILL float.
Well, from what I've calculated whales indeed have a slightly lower density than water, so it wouldn't be so strange that the same logic applies to Wailord.

The other way to think about it is, if it floats IN THE AIR. Do you have any media showing that? (game, anime, etc.)

Assuming that Wailord is just a rescaled blue whale (shorter, but rounder), it would weigh about 167 tons / 367k lb

Assuming it floats in the air, we just multiply its volume for carbon dioxide's density (1.84 kg/m3), getting 371 kg / 818 lb, much closer than what Pokedex says.

I'm not as much satisfied with Skarmory, starting by not having X/Y models. But there's something very interesting about it.
It indeed is bigger than a human, so it's expected that, even it not being metallic weigh more than a human. Interestly enough, if we consider the metallic part of its body mostly composed by microlattice, it weighs a lot less (and gets durable against normal attacks)

So, it weighs 188kg / 414 lb

Hey OP, about 8 years ago my autism was triggered and I tried to calculate realistic weights for Regirock, Registeel, and Regice.

Registeel is made out of imaginary space metal, but I chose steel as a point of reference. Registeel is also supposedly hollow.

Regirock is made of an amalgamation of random minerals, but I believe I chose granite as a base point.

Regice is ice.

I found that Regice's weight in the Pokedex is pretty close to realistic, Regirock weights about 1.5x in real life, and Registeel weighs about 2x as much as the Pokedex says.

Was I close?

In the drawing measurement, its wings span from the center of the pear, which would give 1.4+1.4+0.6m = 3.4m of wingspan.
If Dex says its wingspan is 1.7m, Skarmory's size would be exactly a half of how it's measured in my calculations, so it would be rescaled to an eighth of its volume.

So, in that case, from head to feet it would be 0.85m tall, and it would weigh 23.5kg / 52lb.

Regis have an easy shape to calculate their density with. It would be a safe assumption to assume they're 100% rock/steel/ice. The first two are 4 or 5 times flesh density, so go figure.

It's a ghost type though, so maybe it doesn't even have any mass.
