Honestly, I would love a "gritty" Pokemon show where we see the evil team abusing Pokemon and the effects of battle. Not over the top like the manga, but more realistic.

Part of the reason why I like the anime is that the battles have been giving a chance to be a little more enthusiastic about the fighting but at the end of the day it's still just a bunch of pyrotechnics and decent choreography.
Nothing carries any weight like in Generations.
Where it's at least able to show off a Pokemons abilities but only for 5 seconds. The weight is there its just not much.
Maybe eventually we'll get a I guess what you say dark rendition of Pokemon battles but it seems like it's just going to be left to the manga which takes it over the top and Fan Art like the OP gif where it has more realism.

At first glance I couldn't tell if it was just using its arms or kicking them even after looking at it doing so 5 times. Its legs are so short and its arms are long so i supposed it was using its arms.

Amie is one of the only things I like about the newer games. It is cute and entertaining, and it adds a new mechanic to battling.
