It's a Steel-type that gives up its Rock and Steel resistance and worse Fire and Fighting weaknesses for Ice STAB. Kind of nice for anything forgoing Fire or Fighting coverage I guess? A lot of specially oriented Dragon-types like Hydreigon and Salamence started passing up a fire move for secondary STAB options in VGC 2015 so it might be okay.

What's funny is that I highly doubt Alolan Sandslash is going to become a special attacker, so its best Ice STABs will be, what? Icicle Crash? MAYBE Ice Punch? I can also see it getting Ice Ball, but that's not a fantastic move by any stretch of the imagination. And its most reliable Steel STAB will probably just be Iron Head, if it's lucky enough to learn that. Iron Tail's stronger but inaccurate. Maybe it will become slow enough to effectively utilize Gyro Ball, but who knows.

It does, but it has 65 base speed, which is a perfectly shitty amount of speed so that it's not fast enough on its own, and not slow enough to benefit from Trick Room OR Gyro Ball. Which is why I said maybe the Alolan form will become slow enough to utilize it.

But then of course there are the problems that come with being a slow-as-molasses Pokemon with two x4 weaknesses to extremely common offensive moves. Snowslash really cannot win.

A-Ninetales could possibly get Snow Warning as a Drought equivalent, there's a little hope there.

A-Sandslash is super fucked because the only thing that could possibly fix it would be a new ability. Ninetales also has Moonblast and Ice Beam guaranteed so it doesn't really need that much, meanwhile, Sandslash will need both Bullet and Ice Shard to be half-usable.

Maybe they will change the type chart again and finally fix ice but I doubt it. Shit's fucked either way.
