What deck should I make? I have Rainbow Road, M Gardevoir (Both Despair Ray and Brilliant Arrow), M Scizor (I think it's a bit overrated, but I've only tried it with Garb), Garchomp, and a couple of meme decks, like stuff that deals damage when it takes damage, a mill deck, other garbage. Tried M Rayquaza, it's boring as fuck.
Considering M Mewtwo, but I hate seeing it. This standard seems pretty boring at the moment.

I might as well talk about my experience with the TCG.

I've always liked the cards, but never made an actual deck.

a week ago I bought a generations elite trainer box, had fun, got some ex's, and M-gard, nothing deck-worthy, but some good material for the future.

I like card games, but I'm not thinking about spending another $100 just yet, and I don't know if I should just get more generations material, or the S/M expansion, or anything inbetween. I'm aware of the problem that is shaymin, so I know I just won't be able to play competitively for now because of the cost. But still, what next step do you recommend for me for my collection to grow without fucking it up with something completely unrelated? should I pursue evolutions? or some specific expansion?

It's been working fine for me. You have to understand that the method in play works through bulk and having many different cards undergoing it at once. The profit is made from people who want the cards or packs RIGHT NOW, browsed the public listing and picked whatever as opposed to researching the value of the card.


Of course, the side effect is that the cards will drop in value the more people attempt this, which might be the endgame if he were to have ulterior motives.

What is the minimum number of shaymin-ex with setup ability needed in most decks to win packs in tournaments?

No, I'd rather get your insider knowledge. What anon posted was exactly that. He posted the how with examples (That will probably not work at all by the end of the week with those examples due to saturation). You can then apply this to cards other than the ones in the example and get yourself started by working on this 4 to 1 ratio.

Now, if some other dedicated trader were to show his own method or list the actual prices for the cards he's using in his examples, then that would be way more useful information than just going "scammer!" over and over.

The meta relies heavily in special energy and stadium control and Scizor attack no only deals with both of those things, its charged quickly (2 energy) and 2HKOs anything in the format.

Get used to it, matchups seem pretty biased at the moment in facing weaknesses if your deck has a positive win percent.

1) The card face is the brand, and branding matters. Being able to tell immediately what game this is a card for is important.
2) It's hard to read the text on this card, even when it's facing you. This is more an issue with this specific implementation of the idea rather than the idea of full-art cards, but it still is an issue. (The best candidates for full art are simple and familiar cards everyone can recognize and understand)
3) Perhaps most importantly, card game designers know that they can drive sales to some degree solely by printing full card art, but only once in a while to maintain the novelty. For them it becomes a game of tactically deploying full card art to cover their losses on weak sets.

Start from scratch, M ray deck doesnt need a secondary attacker, you should be attacking with Ray 100% of the time.

Many shittier decks. Best decks are Weavile, which can run Life Dew due to egg abuse, and CelebiGen which uses G-Booster. Smeargle is in every deck that has bench space because he's the best support in the tier. You see your opponent's hand every turn and can use their supporters for free. If it were reprinted you'd see it in tons of decks in standard.

The current meta is all about 2HKOs.
The only decks that can reach 1HKO numbers are Mega Rayquaza, Rainbow Road, Volcanion and Mega Mewtwo.

Mega Rayquaza and Rainbow Road get crippled by Parallel City.

Volcanion gets crippled by Garbodor.

Mega Mewtwo reigns supreme because the only thing that can 1HKO it is Mega Gardevoir and its not popular because its shit outside of being instawin against Mega Mewtwo.

To be fair, it's almost an RNG fest to see who can get setup faster because garbodor needs minimum two turns to be setup and with only 2-2 in most decks it's not always going to happen quick enough.

Once you set up Garbodor the Raticate BREAK deck loses because it cant use Ariados.

Realistically it helps you in matches against other Garbador based decks, such as the mirror match or Mewtwo. It can help prevent Damage Changes vs Mewtwo and against Scizor it will protect your Shield energy. Making them set up a Garbodor to take it away is an advantage to you. Prolly starting my live play journey with Garchomp deck since its just cheap as fuck.

On a deck to deck bases: Skyla, Hex maniac, Pokémon ranger, and float stone.

XY Evolutions is such a shit and disappointing set. They could've saw XY out with a bang with the last hoorah of Mega Evolutions, but no, we get shit remakes and 98% shit cards in the set that not even meme decks can take advantage of.

Is there any reason why offering two chests tends to work so much better to get cards than offering a booster? Hell, I've had offers with 1 SS booster + 1 uncommon chest expire while people take one for 2 uncommon chests.

Rainbow Road is the cheapest option right now for standard. Getting ticketss from theme tourneys and then turning those into packs with ticket tourneys.

You don't need to buy packs to play the game, just use your extra tokens on theme decks for now as they can have staple cards in them along with getting you decent pokemon to use I recommend Night Striker and Wave Slasher.

Shaymin is going to be around for about another year I just bought mine off reddit but you can grind for him too if you have the patience for it.

Seconding the rainbow road suggestion. It's surprisingly cheap for how good it is.
I wouldn't bother buying theme decks though. You have the second best theme deck (the new water one) from the start and you can't get the best (xy basic blue) at all anymore. Spend your coins on tournaments for tickets.

If you have a single tradeable pack, get 16 Pumpkaboo or something similar. Pumpkaboo may not be the best investment now, but around a week ago I could trade 4 of those for 1 pack each, and get 16 for a pack. There's also a chance a lot of people don't really know the value of things like VS Seeker, or Jolteon EX, so if you're willing to exploit that it's a very easy way to double, or even triple, your packs. I went from 1 SS to 100 pretty quickly, like a week of overnight trades. So getting those packs would be the fastest way to expand without spending real money. There are certain cards clueless kids go crazy for, and they'll part with good stuff for it. If you don't have tradeable packs, do some tournaments until you do. I know there are pack rewards from those sometimes.

Look at the currently popular standard decks, and build one you like the idea of, or build your own around them. The most effective for its price is probably Rainbow Road. And Shaymin is around for a little while longer, but keep in mind that having 2 is worth it, but 1 is a bit of a waste IMO.
Alternatively, just spend money on it all to save yourself a week of trading.
