I can't accept Dawn as the MC because it fucks with the starter order. Empoleon fits her best but Infernape fits Barry best, and that combination only works with Lucas as the MC.

As for Kalos, I agree, because Greninja fits Calem and Delphox fits Serena.

So for me every MC is the male one except Kalos.

You can also see that at the beginning of one of the Gen 4 he has a Swampert, and that in the ORAS special animation he has a Treecko that then evolves into Sceptile.

It was clearly not representing anything canonical, especially when the following episodes re-establish the starter choices made in Origins to be the canon ones.

All the other games are more ambiguous, and left up to fan interpretation. Some will say that Hilda/Hilbert chose Tepig, so that Cheren/Bianca would get Oshawott/Snivy to match their color schemes, similar to Gen 1. But none of that is confirmed or official. It's possible that Generations may reveal more about which characters and starter choices are canon, but more likely than not, it will be left mostly ambiguous.
