how do you sort your pokemon in your boxes? how should they be sorted

By number, then different form based on number, then shiny by number. The latter two can be interchanged on which subject is first, but there is no other way, nor should there be

Shinys go in their own box toward the end, but the rest are put wherever. The only thing is, I have to keep the Pokemon where I left them, or else I get flustered.

I do a living dex.
Right now I just need Meloetta, Genesect, Diancie, Hoopa and Volcanion to have all pokémon.
I took the Gotta catch'em all Seriously.

I sort them by whatever I use most frequently in the game in the first box, a large gap so I can store breeding spawn to wondertrade out, then my psuedo living dex, then all my shinies, followed by the legendaries.

Boxes are divided by typings. Two in each box, some only have one and more boxes of the same typing if necessary. Dual box typings usually have fitting combinations too (dark and poison for example). Also a box for legendaries, mythicals and another for competitive ready mons.

Finally, there's also a RANDOM box where I put some teams (usually my casual friends') and two ponytas nicknamed yes/no respectively for trading purporses

Simply by type, then they all get mixed up again when I take some for breeding and some for WT-ing. Also, I don't really have a "Fire type box" or such type of organization, once I've lined up all mons of the same type, right after comes the next type. This way there's no empty spaces in the boxes cause I sure know how to fill the PC quick.

I usually have a box for legendary events, a box for my team or pokemon i might want to train, and everything else is just thrown together willy nilly

Ones I often use tend to be in the front and it goes back from there.

Novelty pokemon (silly gimmick in battle, is just a piece of shit, etc) I stick in the last couple boxes.

Though I keep my megas all in one box just so I don't mix them up with my non-mega build ones.

Legendarys go in the first row, starters go in second, most powerful of 3rd row goes in front along with the other most powerful, extras that i get from breeding and use to trade go in their own designated box, pokemon that are no good but am keeping to level up later go in the lower ones.

Shinies, starters, legends and competitive mons are in their own boxes. Everything else is random.

I just leave them in capture order. Anything I consider important, like party members I'm currently not using, waits in an otherwise empty box, which moves up in number as the captures pile up.

I don't. I just leave them in random order. Unless they're on my team or might be, then they're on the last box. Also I do put legendaries to rot together.

Normally, one box for starters/team and specific collectables (fossils, eeveelutions), 8 boxes for colors (red, blue, green, yellow, pink, purple, black/white, brown) and a box for legendaries.

If it is a game where there's a crapton of pokemon (more than usual), I make a box for each type, except water and normal, that require 2 each.

I'm too lazy to even bother any further and I just dump any unneeded pokemon into the bank. Although I at least do have two boxes for battling, five for breeding/hatched eggs, two for legendaries, one for hidden abilities, one for dittos, and one for synchronisers

I don't sort them. The correct way is to leave it be as it is, and the pokemon are naturally sorted. It's kinda like a story when you look back at your first couple boxes.

I sort them by dex numbers, although I hold separate boxes for trade fodder, shinies and competitive pokemon.

I put all the parents that I bred together, teams I started off with, pokemon with different ID numbers, specific sets for battle, and events/mystery gift pokemons. my games have every pokemon sorted by smogon tiers or types

First box is shit that I use most often.
Second box is stuff that I intend to train for battle spot.
Third box is stuff that I'm going to breed.
Fourth box is Legendaries.
Fifth box is shinies.
And sixth box+ is misc shit that I'll probably never use.

The only box that has its contents organized is shinies, which is in dex order. The rest of them just get moved around as I take them.

Box 1-24: Living dex, organized by dex number. ~90% are from different trainer IDs, I counted once and found I had 500 unique IDs in my living dex alone.
Box 25: Synchronizers, one of every non neutral nature (20) plus a catching smeargle and some other catching related pokemon (magnet pull magneton, suction cups octillery, ect)
Box 26: Dittos, one of every non neutral nature (20) plus a utility talonflame with flame body, fly, and heat wave and a sweet scent tropius for hatching/EV training. I also keep a lv100 Mewtwo in this box and use him if I ever need to blow through some ingame shit.
Box 27-30: Competitively trained pokemon
Box 31: Shinies, event pokemon (including a cherish ball Umbreon from gen 3 era) and ingame team. Plus whatever breeding project I'm working on.

Of course this was only until I started preparing for gen 7, it's all sitting in the bank except one cloned competitive team in my battle box and one cloned team of utility mons. I hope they give us more space in ARORA because an on-cart livingdex kind of makes things crowded.

First box is whatever I use most often in game. Then I have my collection of starter Pokemon, then my legendary Pokemon (the ones that aren't in my living dex in the bank, anyway), and then my shinies. Then after that I have the ones I use in competitive battles. After that it's just a bunch of random ones.

I got a 100% complete living dex, so I don't really have much room to spare. The living dex is ordered by number. The few boxes I have left are used for my trained team members and for breeding purposes ( aka Synchronize Munna of several relevant natures, two 6IV dittos, and extra space for inbreeding until perfection and/or storing useless eggs until I got time to hatch and release them ).

I seperate by gen (usually 3 boxes for each gen) and generally try to have them in order. I make other boxes too though, like two boxes for mega evolutions, (two boxes, one for XY introduced megas and the other for ORAS's exclusives). A box for all unown forms, shinies, several boxes for breeding...

I would love to do a living dex but it just doesn't work with the system I have in place... That and I'm a cheapskate who won't buy Pokebank.
