Look, it's not a full anime. They're just showing other characters' side of story. They didn't even show Red for fucks say. But, to me at least, that one shot of Ethan was more fanservice than anything ashnime has done so far.

The animation wasn't as smooth as it should be, as a matter of budget. Stuff looks choppy, yeah, but I basically can't take anyone seriously who complains about the animation otherwise. Dragonite was very well done, and the way the Rocket Grunts walked was obviously intentional to make them look like cocky idiots. I think the short flashback of Dragonite versus Gyarados was a bit weak, though. Gyarados didn't look like he was really in the water.

Not showing the protagonists directly or prominently is a good choice for what is supposed to show new scenes. I already played the red gyarados shit twice, I don't need to see it animated for me. Seeing Lance do it doesn't "add to the lore", but it's still entertaining.

All they have to do is pick scenarios which fit their short format properly. This was paced well, and so was the Looker one to a lesser extent. The Blue short had terrible pacing, worse animation, and pretty poor voice acting, so these will probably be hit and miss.

When it comes down to it Generations isn't "official game canon" in the same way Pokemon Special or the Ashnime or that one manga with the Clefairy aren't either.

The episodes may not even be in canon with eachother since in episode 1 Red has Bulbasaur but in episode 2 the burn marks in Giovanni's gym seem to imply it was the fight from Origins.

Generations literally isn't even released in japan. There is no japanese dub. It's not a japanese product.

Generations was made for the same reason Sun and Moon got kiddified.

X and Y did really well in the West, but awful in Japan because they have always liked kiddy Ash (for whatever insane reason) and didn't want serious.

Rather than try to make a product that served diametrically opposed fanbases, they made Generations for the West, full serious, and Sun and Moon for Japan, fully kiddy.
