How to progress in PTCGO, tl;dr edition:
>complete all Trainer Challenges for loadsa packs to kickstart your collection
>play through using basic decks to unlock them for versus play
>grind prizes/coins on Versus Mode theme ladder
>enter theme format tournaments whenever possible using coins
>using your winnings from the last two steps, enter ticket tournaments. You'll get tradable shit from those
>trade packs/chests for the cards in a deck you actually want to build
>don't open packs before you have a solid deck, YOU EARNED THOSE, DON'T WASTE THEM ON SOME SHITTY HOLO RARE AND 9X KRABBY
>public trade is like the GTS, if you want proper results, put up your own offers
>occasionally the thread isn't entirely anti-social and can get you deals on cards

To see what your PTCGO stuff is worth right now, look for the PTCGO forums in the trading section.
>Your old IRL cards are probably fake or not worth caring about. Check TrollandToad, eBay, and TCGplayer instead of asking.

Ancient origins eveelutions to exploit weaknesses.

Espeon with "each of your Stage 1 Pokémon in play is now a [P] Pokémon in addition to its existing types" Ability would be nice.

Or just some Standard legal psychic type with "This attack does X damage to Y of your opponent’s Pokémon". We have Wide Lens, so "also apply Weakness and Resistance for Benched Pokémon" part isn't even necessary.

Oh shit, for real. Too bad about discarding two energies.

>baby Hoopa
>Beheeyem

It seems Beheeyem is the closest thing we have for a sniping meme deck as it's a Stage 1, which means Jolteon/Flareon/Vaporeon's abilities work on Beheeyem, but I'm not sure about the "...times the amount of Energy attached to that Pokémon" part. It probably will help to deal with attackers, but you can't target delicious benched Shaymemes and Hoopas unless you're also using Royal Flash or something like that.

Jolteon-tachi turn stage ones into their element. The only reason to do this would be to get sweet ass weakness damage. But beheeyem ignores weaknesses when sniping, so he wouldn't get the bonus.

Maybe I really am not following, but...

It isn't a functional Stage 1 like EX is functional basic? It probably works better without spirit links, it takes up less space and it's not like it's fast to set up anyway.

I think this may be the card you are looking for. Pair with a Jolteon and a Wide Lens you can OHKO Shaymin on the bench.
I don't think we'll ever get the BREAK for it which sucks because it would probably be a fun deck if we did.

Break has 140HP, C: This attack does 20 damage to each of your opponent's Pokémon. This attack's damage isn't affected by Weakness and Resistance. Then, discard all Pokémon Tool cards attached to each of your opponent's Pokémon.

its a helluva ability, but without seeing it's HP, there's no way to call it unbalanced. Like if it's a 110 HP 2 prize easy pickup, I'm okay with that. People can run four and I'll pick em off all game long.

Odd that an English version is what leaked first. But I do note the ink pools aren't just ripped from the Lunala/Solgaleo cards, so maybe it's real? idfk.

win lose about 50/50, but the games are hella fast. You can quit after a turn if it's not working out and just scale the ladder quickly. If this is your style, Talonflame Break as a deck is worth looking into too. Loses a whole lot, but the games are quick as fuck.

I'm new to PTCGO.

What's collecting like in the game? From what I gather, there's LOADS of cards you can just never get in the game unless you grind your brains out and then maybe you can trade for something. Can you trade cardbacks and deckboxes?

Does anyone think Nintendo will close service for the game someday in the future? I'd hate to spend money and time on this game just for Pokemon company to have a shift in "business strategy" and axe the game.

Well shit.
>>
>>28846161
are you talking about collecting for the sake of building decks or collecting to catch em all? The latter is a bit pointless. You can finish out the more recent sets easily enough. Older ones are a lot more difficult and will require grinding/cash investment.
>>
>>28846363
well I kind of find collecting fun in TCGs. Is it really that hard to collect in TCGO?

I guess I should only use this game for playing decks.
>>
>>28846412
Collecting cards you won't play is kinda pointless, because, you can look at all the cards that exist at any time, even if you don't own them.
>>
>>28846161
You can collect every card theoretically but much like IRL it's pointless, just get the cards you want, get a good deck, and then go from there. You'll inevitably get untradeable packs which you can trade off.

Game has been running since 5th gen cards senpai, it won't be closing down in the near future.

If anything digital is more likely to prosper since it's out on phones now too which give it a LOT more access to the more casual audience of people who want to play a match while on commutes.
>>
>>28846450
Er get untradeable packs which you can open up and get some cards.

Honestly you should focus on a deck that wins first so you can get currency and from there once you have a way to get in game currency/packs you should move to collecting in the future.

I'm currently in the earning stage for packs since I have 3-4 good decks which I can use. Scizor, Rainbow Road, XernBreak, Grinja, and a couple other meme decks.

it does however track your collection like pic related. However, like every other piece of shit coding done in this game, it doesn't work right. I have many more sets completed than just the one it's showing here. I can only guess if the 43% part is accurate or not.
>>
Couple of questions about Mega Ray decks. Could it work with water energies and Manaphy EX? I've seen people run it with fairy energies to benefit from fairy garden, but that seems a little pointless. That could also put a Regice in the deck, right?
Or disregard that and just go with Zoroark? Also gives me a non-EX attack, not the best one though. Would also mean I'd need to add float stones.
I've seen people suggest Altaria for the deck with its ability to remove weaknesses from normal types, but how common are electric types to make that worth the space?
>>
>>28846919
Oh, also, I only have 2 Shaymin. How essential are 4?
>>
>>28846919
I've seen every variant of megaray in the world and literally there's no correct answer in what you can run. I've seen manaphy, zoroark, jolteons, etc

End of the day, your deck gets crushed by a lot of decks. Any deck with parallel city will shit all over you and mega scizor in particular unless you can get a LOT of lucky draws and some bricking on their side will shit on you hard.

Very essential for shaymins, you'll often to be rushing to full your bench which Shaymins help you do. If you aren't OHKO'ing something by your first attack turn then you probably lost.
>>
>>28846982
Ah, that's a shame. I have enough from the previous ladder and packs that I could make a deck from them, so the only investments I'd have to make is getting 2 more Shaymin, which I don't really want to do yet. I guess I'll stick with my Scizor deck for a while then. Thanks for the quick response, Anon.

>>
>>28847884

>>
>>28847884
Not sure how your scizor deck feels like garbage anon, it's legitimately one of the more consistent and disruptive decks in the format with shaymeme and hammers.

That being said, you autolose to volcanion and have a really even matchup with mega-mew.

You autowin versus fairies though unless you brick.
>>
>>28847969
Maybe its just that I don't have a hoopa yet, but I can't help but mulligan several times/entirely brick out with it. It just doesn't get good starts and even if it doesn't its pretty easy to disrupt.
>>
>>28848030
>no hoopa

Yeah, there's your issue anon. Hoopa means you can ultra ball into it and then drop it for a scizor/m-scizor as well as a shaymeme.

You need the Hoopa+2 Shaymemes+3 Scizors.

Then you can add Cobalion for matchup reasons as well as to give you another basic.

Then two trubish.

That's already a total of 9 basics in your deck at the beginning of a game. You can also add another cobalion too if you feel like it but I've come to realize two cobalions is kind of overkill and I usually end up discarding one anyway.

You will still mulligan from time to time but that's RNG.
>>
>>28848079
Why run 3 Scizor instead of 4? Any particular reasons?
>>
>>28848095
The people who adhere to the 3-3 only meme believe since the fourth one will never be used it's dead weight.
>>
>>28848095
Clogs your deck.

I tried running 4 scizors at one point and it felt pointless with so much draw power with hoopa and shaymeme to draw into them.

Also you'll rarely come into a situation where the fourth scizor is relevant since 3 ex KOs is 6 prizes and thus a loss.

If the argument of a fourth scizor is more likely to start with it or less likely to be prized then it's actually barely changing to odds.

I'm still not in love with my current build to be honest and considering cards to swap around.
>>
>>28848095
Because you can already tutor out the 3 you have, you'll never have a reason to lose more than two ever so there's basically no reason to ever have more
>>
Not trying to stir shit, but is this game even good compared to the other popular online CCGs?
>>
>>28848206
How do you define "good?" That's an important place to start.
>>
except you start every game missing six random cards from your deck :^)
>>
>>28848231
If I was ever to make an argument for something that needed to be addressed it'd be that random set of your deck can be prized.

It's pretty dumb to potentially lose a whole game because the card you actually needed to get a KO was prized and thus you would never draw into it.

But the game has had that built in since day one so eh.
>>
>>28844758
probably not, just like the battle arena decks weren't.
>>
>>28848270
The prize mechanic is nice, I quite like it.

It has its trade-offs. For one, it's not like Life or Life Points where you could actually bleed yourself to access really good effects. Pokemon has tried that with a few effects that Knock Out your own Pokemon, to give your opponent a prize, but the effect is never that good. And the randomness of what cards get prized suck, but as that anon from the last thread pointed out, your deck should be able to play under the majority of games, prizing shouldn't outright kill your deck very often.

On the other hand, it ewards the player who is actually winning with resources and limits the pacing of the game. Yugioh, for instance, has no limits on how much damage you could to your opponents Life and is often the case that you lose in one turn. While that makes for fast and fun games and matches, it also means you don't get much actual playtime with your cards. It's hard to know how bad/good your deck is when you get steamrolled in one turn. The prize mechanic at least artificially drags the game out.

well you can earn 50 cent packs in pretty short time, but to build the best decks you will need to buy physical packs or codes from people to be able to trade for better decks. if you want to play in theme decks you'll have a lot of fun as well, and you get some of these for free.

>is the game complex enough to retain interest?
yes, play through the tutorial

>Is the meta in a state to where many different kinds of decks are viable?
yes, and the top deck right now changes every day it seems like. there are even a few competitive budget decks.

there are a few expensive staples, but it is basically the cost of entry.
>>
>>28848364
I definitely think your deck should be able to function even if both of your shaymemes of your deck get prized but it definitely does suck at times not knowing if you're unlucky or drawing badly in the middle of the game.

Like I almost wish there was a way before the game started to at least know these X cards are not in your deck so you could play accordingly.

You're better off buying the RS packs for like .50 or so and then trading those 20 RS for a RA Shaymin.

I wouldn't advise grinding for 20 RS in theme tournaments but I'm against wasting time on something for hours when an hour of working my job can easily pay for the packs needed for RS packs for shaymemes.

>If the argument of a fourth scizor is more likely to start with it or less likely to be prized then it's actually barely changing to odds.

With 3 EXs you have 35% of starting with it (1 in 3 games), with 4EXs you have 46% of starting with it (almost 1 in 2 games).

IMO is not worth using a slot for that, barely changes things.

Thats why I run 3-3 in my Mewtwo and Scizor decks.

Just played a match where I had 5 cards left in my deck and just needed a Lysandre to win. I run 2 Lysandre and they were both stuck in the deck.

I still won, but the RNG wanted me to fail and the match went on for a few more turns. I was really trying to dig one out as well, not just hoping to top-deck.

Regirock EX puts it in to overdrive. I run 3 in mine, get them out on the bench as quickly as I can. I'd suggest 4 Ultra Balls and VS Seeker. Only 1 Delinquent seems to work for me. I've also gone with 1 Solrock, mainly because I don't think it's massively useful, when I ran 2 I realised I wasn't needing it that often. Wally isn't very good at all. It may seem great to get the evolutions in play, but at the expense of a supporter, I don't think it's worth it. Instead, try rare candies and reduce the stage 1 count for each rare candy you add. Evosoda, though not something I like to use, might be a little better as it's an item. No same turn play/evolve, though.
Sycamore is more useful than Birch, IMO. Weakness Policy seems a little weird. Add 1 Skylar. Faded Town might be a bit pointless, but I've never used it so I can't tell if its effectiveness makes it worthwhile. Not sure about Acro Bike either. Or Giovanni's Scheme. Level Ball is better than Fan Club here, as you can get Gible or Solrock with it without relying on support usage for the turn. I might be forgetting a bunch, I'd post my decklist if I could.

I have a lot of fun with the deck though, probably my favourite one I've used this standard. Wish I used it last with the support it had then.
>>

>>
Oh right, I have no way of telling my opponent my deck is a speed evolution only deck. Thanks devs.
>>
>>28854949
Budget Chomp is great. Regirock and Carbink actually help a bit too as long as you can keep the inevitable Garbomemes under control.
>>
>>28854630
4 VS seekers just get in the way of this specific deck. You have enough copies of the pertinent supporters as to not need them and it's a dead draw in many hands. Sycamore is better... On other decks. My experience with sycamore in this deck has been that it does way more harm than good due to how critical a lot of the cards are. I'm not sure if it was just bad luck, but needing to set up extra slots to save stuff sycamoe threw away is just more situational cards that will draw dead, like VS seekers.

Wally just helps gibbles not die to turn 2 starts, when I ran the deck with rare candies, I had the issue where the opponent would get turn 1, and kill the gibble in turn 3. Gabite can survive a lot more turn 3 stuff. If hard stone was legal, I would be running rare candies with those instead. Weakness policy is there for this same reason.

faded town is for killing megas, which are harder for chompy to OHKO (Chompy usually deals 180). Acro Bike is a deck thinner. It means the deck has four less cards overall and more chances of you getting what you need while reserving resources like ultra balls for other stuff. Giovanni is great. He gets you those OHKOs you need and double duties as draw power when you don't need them.

Not really arguing against your suggestions, just explaining the thought process behind the chosen cards (which may be wrong).

Yeah, I think you're right about throwing four ultra balls into the deck. Regirock looks like he can do solrock's job better, since solrock is just there to ensure you have access to the strong energy for extra damage. My only issue is that they would probably force me to get switches or float stones into the deck and I would rather keep the deck as focused as possible. I agree that fanclub has been a useless fuck and hadn't thought about using level balls for the job. And Birch has also been a useless fuck ever since I got the extra giovannis.
>>
>>28855178
How effective is Regirock on the deck? I was actually considering carbinks so I can charge the chomps while they're evolving, but the regirocks don't really look that useful, even without considering garbotoxin.

If you can fish 1-2 of them you're getting a universal +20 damage on your already boosted attacks vs EX. They're also capable of a solid 110 damage attack on their own in a pinch so you don't feel retarded carbink charging them like you would charging something like a Garbo in a non-psy deck.

The idea was just to add a couple of basic non-evolving pokemon who only worked as a way to stop hand reshuffling while fetching the core pokemon for the deck, so you can set up pretty much the same as if you had it in your first hand. It's just meant as a way to focus the deck while potentially getting access to more cards during set up as the opponent keeps reshuffling after I place the fetch card down.

It's probably not a great idea, but I was thinking that if the fetcher was a decent mon himself, I could probably make it work. Too bad it seems we only have skarmory and dunsparce.

to stop people doing exactly what I'm doing. You can't go to a real life game and replay over and over till you get a hand you're happy with. You can't play poker without buying in an ante.
>>
>>28863383

You absolutely could scoop every time you got a bad hand in real life. People might not want to play you casually anymore because of how much time it takes to set up a game, but that's not an issue online. The person who wins even gets a reward. By quitting you're doing them a favor.
>>
>>28863383
You're handing them a step up the versus ladder or a free passage to the next round in the tournament.

>>28865595
>The fuck are your VS Seekers at?

Not in the deck. I want to be discarding supporters, not vs seekers.

>Why no Yveltal?

It's slow and promotes your shit getting lysandred.

>Do you really want 4-1-4 instead of 3-1-3 of your five-energy attacker?

Drawing into things naturally is pretty important, the more the better.

>No Stadium? No Tools? EXP Share is neat here.

All those things are going to make the discard less consistent. A muscle band makes the most sense given the damage numbers.

>You don't need that many Pal Pads or Milotics.

u wot

Those are literally the life of the deck.

>Brigette, Delinquent with no Stadiums, and Korrina are all bad here.

Brigette and Delinquent are there to be discarded, I might replace them with muscle bands. Korrina was very, very good in the games I've played so far.

>Since you're playing Expanded, where are your Dark Patches and Darkrai? No Sableye? No Ace Spec?

Yea I forgot the ace spec. I'm not sure how the other cards mentioned would help me, though. Everything has 1 retreat, wants to be active, or can kill itself, so Darkrai doesn't do much. Dark Patches are redundant. Sableye might be good.
>>
>>28865871
Almost everything you wrote here is painfully wrong or ignorant.
You have a deck that's going to be discarding Supporters, yet you don't see how VS Seeker can be useful? You're even running almost max Compressors, Seekers should be an autoinclude here.
What does "promotes Lysandre" even mean? Or drawing into things "naturally"?? Are you having a go?
You're running Supporters that do virtually nothing for the sake of being discard fodder? How does this make sense to you? You don't see any problems here at all?
How wouldn't Dark Patch in a Compressor deck running 12 fucking basics help you out?

You have to realize you're running a Stage 2 deck that takes five energies to attack, and no fast or easy way of actually achieving that. No, Milotic and Compressor won't magically make it go fast. Unless you open with some Christmas magical hand, what do you plan on doing for the first 3+ turns when you're floundering to actually have Tyranitar hit the board? This is the exact kind of deck that needs some form of secondary attacker, because there's absolutely no way you can consistently set up or streamline these Tyranitar.
>>
>>28865962

Senpai you should probably look up what the cards do.
>>
>>28865979
That's a very well-thought counter argument, I take back everything I said.
Oh wait, no it wasn't and no I don't.

You're reading Tyranitar's attack, and instead of putting on your critical thinking cap and figuring out exactly what your priorities should be in this sort of deck, you're focusing on your perceived need to mill Supporters.
>>
>>28866031

>You have a deck that's going to be discarding Supporters, yet you don't see how VS Seeker can be useful?

I can play VS Seeker to re-use a supporter or I can just put another supporter in my deck. When your shit synergizes with discarding the actually supporters, it can actually make sense to do that.

>You're even running almost max Compressors, Seekers should be an autoinclude here.

You understand that Compressors and Seekers are great because they improve consistency and let you cut down on the number of supporters, right? Because that isn't the goal here.

>What does "promotes Lysandre" even mean? Or drawing into things "naturally"?? Are you having a go?

There isn't some hidden meaning here. Put any thought into it and you'll get my meaning.

>You're running Supporters that do virtually nothing for the sake of being discard fodder?

Except they don't do nothing. Show me a single card in the deck that does nothing. Go ahead. I KNOW for a fact you can't because no cards in the fucking deck have no text.

>How wouldn't Dark Patch in a Compressor deck running 12 fucking basics help you out?

Do you know what Tyranitar does? Do you know what Milotic does? I don't think adding a 3rd, even less effective way of adding dark energy from my discard to a DARK pokemon is going to help me. Out of all the things you recommended, this is the one that makes me question everything else you've said. It's actually fucking retarded. Legitimately brain-dead.

>You have to realize you're running a Stage 2 deck that takes five energies to attack, and no fast or easy way of actually achieving that.

Yea, maybe dark patch will speed it up :^)
>>
>>28866260
I see the problem here. You're viewing VS Seeker as a card that saves space, when that's very much not the overall goal of Seeker. It lets you toolbox supporters at will. You have a single Brigette, Hex, and Delinquent. You have a normal count of two Lysandre. Now, how do you expect to magically draw into those cards exactly when you need them? What do you think your 1x copy of Hex is going to accomplish? Pal Pad isn't enough, because you're going to be forced to actually use another Supporter to go and redraw into your little techs after your mere two Shaymin have been already played. The fact that you're already running near-max Compressor only doubles this point.

>There isn't some hidden meaning here. Put any thought into it and you'll get my meaning.
There's either a hidden meaning or you're babbling about something that doesn't make sense.
What the fuck does "promotes Lysandre" mean? Can anyone else other than this guy begin to explain this? You're worried that your opponent might actually need to use a Lysandre to get around an active Yveltal to hit an unprepared Tyranitar? Wouldn't the alternative just be them not having to use the Lysandre since Tyranitar is in the active?

>Show me a single card in the deck that does nothing.
Delinquent, Hex, Brigette in those quantities without VS Seeker or the proper infrastructure to support their objective.

Again, your entire strategy is praying that Milotic will be enough to set you up in the early game (and your deck literally does nothing unless you actually get those five energies on board), and that Tyranitar will be able to set itself up in the late game when you can't afford to Milotic. This isn't going to magically work out every single time. Something like Yveltal or Dark Patch can actually help you get those extra 1-3 energies you need to actually swing, and the former even acts as a card you can use while you set up your five-energy Stage 2 Pokemon.

I made between 15 to 30 packs a day for the past 3 weeks with this list.
Obiously you wont make as much because all of you faggots will copy it and saturate the market, but you will still be able to make some profit out of it.

Card, buy for > sell for.

Ariados, 16 for 1 SS > 4 for 1 SS
Spinarak, 16 for 1 SS > 2 Spinarak and 2 Ariados for 1 SS
Unown, 16 for 1 SS > 4 for 1 SS
Pumpkaboo (PHF), 16 for 1 SS > 4 for 1 SS
Joltik (PHF), 16 for 1 SS > 4 for 1 SS
Vespiquen, 12 for 1 SS > 4 for 1 SS
Regice, 4 for 1 SS > 1 for 1 SS

Sycamore (BKP), 16 for 1 SS > 4 for 1 SS
N (FC), 12 for 1 SS > 4 for 1 SS
Dimensional Valley, 4 for 1 SS > 1 for 1 SS
Shrine of Memories, 4 for 1 SS > 1 for 1 SS
Parallel City, 4 for 1 SS > 1 for 1 SS
Sky Field, 8 for 1 SS > 2 for 1 SS
Forest of Giant Plants, 8 for 1 SS > 2 for 1 SS
Rough Seas, 8 for 1 SS > 2 for 1 SS

>>
>>28866439

>I see the problem here.

If there were a number of supporters that were a must to hit, I would agree with you. But no, I don't see VS Seeker as a way to save space. I see the combination of Seeker and Compressor as a way of improving consistency and cutting supporter lines. The combination of the two being a key distinction. But as a way of toolboxing supporters, I don't see the point here. I want to draw, I want to search, and I may, but probably won't, want to Lysandre, because I'll probably need to draw. And that's just the limitation of playing a meme deck. Discarding supporters has been critical to getting knockouts because of Megas and FFBs. But anyway, I cut Delinquent and Hex for Muscle Bands back after my first response, so there's no need to bring those up.

>You're worried that your opponent might actually need to use a Lysandre to get around an active Yveltal to hit an unprepared Tyranitar? Wouldn't the alternative just be them not having to use the Lysandre since Tyranitar is in the active?

Things getting knocked out isn't a big deal given Tyranitar's ability. Yveltal, just like Dark Patch, is redundant. The deck does not have troubles getting energy where they need to be. It's a (slow) solution to a non-existent problem.

>Delinquent, Hex, Brigette in those quantities without VS Seeker or the proper infrastructure to support their objective.

That's like saying the one-of Shadow Triad was pointless in Virgen. Simply not true, which is why I've kept Brigette in. If I draw it early, great. If I don't, I can draw into them "naturally" with the other draw. I'm not running 4 VS Seeker and effecting my damage for the ability to find Brigette and Lysandre on demand. It's not worth potentially missing the 200+ damage.

>Again, your entire strategy...

I'm not taking this deck to a regionals. It's a fucking meme. It's not going to work every time. Of course it's slow. If I wanted speed, consistency, and big damage I would play NM.
>>

This is the first deck I've tried to make in the hope of getting into the game irl.

A couple (if not most) of the ideas have been discussed on this thread, tell me how badly executed are in this deck, I'm open to suggestions.

Things to note: I only have 2 seekers (Battle arena deck) for now, that's why 2 Lyssanders and 2 Skylas are in its place.

count your stars that item lock is not a thing right now. even an occasional vileplume deck is an autoloss here.

Apart from that, the only red flag is why bursting balloon? it seems like an unusual addition. Just for getting Megas into KO range? I feel like there's better cards for those slots. Karen is not really suited to this deck either. An Olympia to bring back stranded Regirock would be a far sounder choice I reckon.

Has Phantom Knight Trading Company had a big price drop recently? I use their list as a guide to a card's actual market value (knocking off 20%-50%), but I just looked and a lot of their prices have reduced.

I'm not sure if this is because of a change in the market, or just that they stocked up on loads of the more valuable cards so they could offer lower rates.
>>
>>28872083
The market is stabilizing.
>>
>>28872105

If that's the case, then their new prices seem a bit strange. Some stuff is now priced below the market average and other stuff is still way above.

If the market were stabilising, surely they could match prices better?
