Nope, "saving a lot of data" was only a thing in gen 4.
It was still longer in gens 1-3 though but at the very least it was still tolerable.
It wasn't snappy until Gen 5 and Gen 6 made it even faster.

It's also worth noting that the "saving a lot of data" prompt was even slower in Plat than it was in DP.
