The kids realise that their actions now have consequences instead of going about it with reckless abandon like they did as kids. Which is the crux of Tai's problem for the most part as is the fact that they've all grown apart.

That's not to say they haven't retained parts of their personality and character traits just that they've "evolved" so to speak.

Kari mentions that she failed to get in touch with them in the first movie, then again in the third, and then Himekawa tells Matt that Ken is okay and that she's keeping an eye on everyone and he buys into it for some fucking reason.

Outside of Xros it's always been the same. In Frontier it's still the same but that season was Toei saying "This Kamen Rider shit is making us a lot of money again, and Digimon needs to be more like it because it's what's in." but outside of the kids everything is the same.

Apllimon is likely also different but I don't really know. I heard it's a lot of fun though according to some anon who has been playing the demo.

Aside from the actual plot moving along at a snail's pace, the whole thing is really poorly animated (and the art style is bland shit), the characters are dumber than when they were kids, there's all this pointless drama, Leomon dies AGAIN and it's just uninteresting in general. Unless they've completely turned around the last few episodes there's no reason to watch it for any reason other than nostalgia.
