pokemon names you refuse to pronounce in the mainstream way
This is bol-DO-ray.
>>28795224
I say Bold-door
Ar-cee-oos
>>28795292
Ar-sea-us for me
>>28795313
That's the mainstream way. I say "arkayus" because I'm stupid.
Rata-tata.
>>28795292
>>28795313
>>28795441
Are-say-uss
I still say Soo-coon, even though I know it's supposed to be "Swee-coon"
I also call Miltank "Milk-tank"
>>28795224
I will never call Kyurem "Keer-um"
It's "Kai You Rem"
"Eggs-ecute-er"
>>28795796
>Caillourem
>>28795292
>>28795313
>>28795498
It' Ark-eh-uss
>>28795224
>Bold-ore
Willing ignorance is worse than retardation. You have no justification for this.
>>28795796
i've always called it "cue-rem"
>>28795292
>>28795313
>>28795441
>>28795498
>>28795859
(Golden) Arches
>>28795796
It's "cue" as in "cute" or "cue" then "rem" as in "remedy"
"cue-rem"
No fucking clue where you're getting "keer"
>>28795904
i thought it was meant to be pronounced "keh-yur-em"
On a semi-related note;
Once at daycare I made my friend's little brother really upset because he thought that Erika was pronounced eek-ah.
>It's air-ick-a
>NO IT'S EEEEEEK-AAAAAAAAHH
>But there's an r there,
>IT"S EEEEEEEEEEEEEKK-AAAAAAAH
"OH-shuh-watt"
Like "ocean" and "water"
"ocea"-"wat"
I CANNOT pronounce it "ah-shuh-wott"
I use their Japanese names so I don't have to deal with English pronunciation bullshit.
>>28795969
Are you at least japanese?
>>28795919
https://translate.google.com/m/translate#en/ja/kyurem
there should be a little speaker icon, you can click it to hear. Reshiram, Zekrom, and Kyurem all have the same name in every language and Japanese is phonetic so we know how to pronounce it (not trying to be rude or condescending, just letting you know)
>>28795979
I watch anime everyday, so yeah, I'm basically Japanese.
>>28796004
>Growl-don for Groudon
>Rah-eeh-qwa-za for Rayquaza
>Kah-eeh-o-gre for Kyogre
>Growl-lee for Growlithe
I'm not english speaking, I had some time to figure how to write them the way I say. There's probablu more, but they are the one I can remember now, mostly because I'm used to read them in my language.
I'm used to put an "o" in the end of Bulbasaur line too.
I pronounce it either Hi-Dray-Gen or Hi-Dree-Jin. I don't like pronouncing it the faggy Hi-Dragon. When I first saw it I pronounced it like hydrogen because I was dumb
>>28796004
>>28796027
it's..."high-dry-gone"....it has "drei"...German for "three"
How did you manage to find a picture and type those words out because you clearly are too retarded to fuction
>>28796027
Literally no one pronounces it as "hi-dragon"
In Spanish Arceus is pronounced Arkeuz
>>28795796
I always said Cure-em
>>28795292
Ass-sea-cus
Skiz-ur
>Are-see-us
>Ray-quah-zuh
I refuse to pronounce these any other way fuck you
Not a pokemon but it always bothered me how everyone pronounces Giovanni "Ji-o-vanni" when the italian pronunciation is "Joe-vanni"
>>28796171
I think it's because 1) American pronounciation is weird and 2) "geo" as in "earth". I was always pretty sure they chose Giovanni because Italian mobster + earth reference
>>28796049
>>28796070
That's what I thought too but look it up. It's pronounced Hi-Dragon. The official 3d pokedex says so and I've heard it in the anime like that too. I've gotten into several arguments with a friend of mine who first told me it and even still I argue with him when he brings it up. It is drei like in German but paired with -gon at the end makes it sound like dragon.

Skip to 29:30 (basically the end) and tell me what you hear. This app has a lot of god awful pronounciations (like Ferroseed and Ferrothorn) but it says "high-dry-gun"
>>28796300
My point exactly. The Pokémon let out a long "dryyyyyy" sound and the Pokédex said "high-dry-gun". What point are you trying to make, that you're hard of hearing?
Arceus have the same Japanese and English names, but the English anime director changed it's pronunciation to Ar--KEY-us because Arce sounds like Arse. How does think make you feel?
>>28796331
It's saying Hi-Dry-gin like how you'd pronounce gon in dragon. It's not exactly Hi-dragon but it's close enough to sound like it and I think that's what they tried to do with how Gamefreak will shove as many puns as possible into a single name. I get that it's drei but paired with gon makes a similar sound to dragon.
>>28796386
Ohhh I thought you were saying it's pronounced "dra" instead of "dry". Apologies.
Anyway, I get that the "gon" in Hydreigon comes from dragon but I still think it sounds more reasonable to pronounced like Bagon (bae-gone). But I see what you're saying. To me, it's like how we pronounce the "toise" in Blastoise NOTHING like how it is in "tortoise". Parts of a word taken out of context can be pronounced differently
>>28796468
No worries anon, I completely agree. Thats how i pronounce it, like bagon, not the real way.
>>28795859
You do know Masuda and co. said at an interview Ar-ke-us and Ar-sea-us are both correct pronunciations. Even they couldn't agree which was which so they decided to simply go with both.
>>28795224
It wasn't until I watched the anime recently that I realized I was pronouncing Unova, Nacerene, and Castelia wrong. I prefer saying the region as "U-Nova" rather than "U-nuh-vah."
>>28796564
I say "ooh-NOH-vuh". It sounds the most natural to me
>>28795224
I pronounce Aegislash as "Ayy-Geh-Slash" and Dialga as "Dye-Al-Guh".
>>28795824
I say "Eggs-Egg-qutor" because I'm a fucking weirdo.
People that pronounce Regice as "Re-jise" and not "Re-ji-ice" need to be shot.
>>28795590
>even though I know it's "Swee-coon"
Anon.. it's "Soo-seen"
>>28795273
Godorrr
I pronounce it asPiece-of-shit
>>28796682
Phonetics say it's the former.
It's not Regiice, or Regyice. It's one 'i' between the 'g' and the 'c'.
Anyway.
Arr-kuh-nine
Arr-see-uhs
Vesp-ih-kwen
I have a lot of trouble saying Passimian and Raikou, and when I was little I called Suicune "soo-kee-nee." Like zuchini but with an 's.'
>>28795841
>>28795590
I say Swee-soon-ay. Or just call it Suicide.
>>28796862
Oh yeah, how are you even supposed to pronounce "Raikou"? I assume Raiko, because sometimes the japanese long -o sound gets romanized as -ou, so I'm guessing that's what's happening here too?
>>28795292
Ar-KAY-uss for me.
>>28796928
who the fuck made this
>>28797164
RYE-koo, I think. That's how I say it anyway.
>>28796928
>>28795224
rhymes with Parco fol-GO-ray
chi-chi-chi-chi oppai~
>>28795292
AHR-zeus
i pronounce it as "shitty rat"
>>28795796
But isn't kai-you-rem how westerners pronounce it? Like every word with the -ya/-yu/-yo syllable.
