Have to say it's Hoenn, only because it's the one where I can most easily recall what most of the routes look like off hand, probably because I've played through it on three different games. Though to be fair, I've only played through Sinnoh, Unova, and Kalos once.

Sinnoh's my favorite region, and I just turned 19 today.

I guess I'll add why I liked it.

I liked the villain's team and reasons for what they were doing. It actually seemed like something that could happen. An out of control animal rights group that goes too far, only to have it's leader not even care about the original reason of why they're doing what they're doing.

I loved how the gym leaders played a part in the story. I liked how the protagonists were older.

I actually liked how you didn't have to really use any HM's until post-game. It made you want to go back and explore everything while looking for the sages.

There's probably loads more of things I liked I just can't remember.

Not the topic, but holy shit at the Unova map. It was always a vit messy, but with XYs map style, it shows. But yeah, Unova is my fave, lookat all those PoIs, so many memorable places thst aren't cities.

Only played till generation 4, platinum was the last game i played. Remembered the world being a mess, no real sense of worldbuilding, just some random setpieces scattered around.

Favourite has to be HGSS Johto/Kanto

Kanto is the least interesting of the bunch, but it's understandable because it was the first one. I have nostalgia for Johto, and the remakes increased that Japanese feel a lot, but I'll have to go with BW2 Unova as well.

Love the changes between the original and sequel. Something about making that trek backwards to Nuvema from Castelia in the post game was so relaxing despite everything being in the 50-60s with levels. Not to mention I was really happy to start in a brand new area of the map and fly to the formerly post game section eastern Unova to finish off the story in W2.

I love the aesthetic and the atmosphere for Johto, but I find myself constantly beginning a new game in Unova just so I can rediscover places and have as varied a team as I'd like, even in the beginning routes. Both regional girls are qts, imo.

I honestly like something about every region — even Kanto and Kalos. For instance, my favorite town music is Snowbelle (Virbank runner-up), and the genwun trek from Viridian, through the badge check, Victory Road, and on to the Indigo Plateau is maybe my favorite stretch of road ever (though BW1 and BW2 both had fucking stellar badge checks, Rt. 10, or Victory Roads, too).

Unova's the best, though. I'm 31 now.

Sinnoh being so close is not surprising either.

Kalos, it has it's issues but that game brought the magic of pokemon back. Maybe I was too bitter by age or whatever but I hated the Unova region so much, the pokemon were fine, just hated the maps and gyms and even the story. For whatever reason though I love Kalos, I can see why people dislike the region but I loved it.

I started Pokémon pretty late and got yellow when FRLG came out. A few weeks later i also got Firered and Sapphire and i loved these games.

The hype for Emerald was fucking unreal, and even more so for Diamond and Pearl. The wait was killing me so i decided to get Pearl from the US because i live in Germany and the EU release date was a fucking mess back in the day.

Maybe it was because of this hype, but DP and gen4 in general are my strongest and fondest memories i have of Pokémon.

I barely played the gen5 games for some reason, even if i didn't dislike them. It just wasn't there for me.

Kalos was shit but i played XY way more than all of the gen5 games combined. But that was pre-bank so there's that. Having to start from zero without any possibility to transfer your old Pokémon was kinda cool. After that the hype went down.

tl;dr non-blogpost version

I liked Sinnoh, HGSS Johto and Emerald Hoenn the most because that was the time i was very invested in Pokemon.

Maybe that's the reason so many people like Unova here on /vp/, because they got to be part of the hype and were younger back then.
