Happened in my BW Nuzlocke. Oshawott was going to be Sheldon, like a shell. But it was a girl, so after a lot of brainstorming I named her Shelly. I am not good with names.

Same thing happened with my Mudkip in ORAS. Was pumped to get the ultimate bro but it was a girl. A girl Mudkip is fine as well.

The only starter i've ever reset to get a female version of was Fennekin because I thought Delphox looked way too feminine.

In previous generations, I usually got tons of female versions of the starter I picked until I got the nature I wanted. Now that i've got a better grasp on breeding i'll probably always reset for a female so I can make starter mons.
