For Typhlosion, the answer is obvious. Fire/Ground. It has eruption and I think it's supposed to have a theme with volcanoes. Plus Fire/Ground is too good of a typing to be wasted on Camerupt.

Meganium is Grass/Fairy because it has a brighter, more coloful look to it. 4x weakness to poison won't matter since poison is still a shit offensive type and won't be seen outside of stab.

Feraligatr is Water/Dark to make good use of that stab Crunch.

Those are basically the only decent moves it gets.

Think of Altaria being fairy dragon on mega, both stabs are stupidly redundant. It like having a fairy that resist water fire and electric but is weak to poison and steel. It can't fucking use dragon moves outside of Draco Meteor as its fairy moves are just superior.

This is what you get with water fighting Feraligatr, a pokemon that hits Ferrothorn and air Ballon Empoleon a bit harder.

Ingame pokémon is not about being as powerful as possible. That's not just impractical, it's pointless. It's about being powerful _enough_ - and being powerful enough is pretty damn easy. If a mon is made weaker by its typing, or if it gets some redundant STABs, the game isn't going to be significantly affected - usually. You'd have to make a really good argument as to why one mon's typing is really important to a particular game.

Nobody is basing their decisions on what makes a mon more or less powerful. They're basing them off of what the mons look and act like. I don't think Feraligatr looks like a fighting-type, but the other anon does, and so he suggested that it could be water/fighting.

Realistically speaking, even mons ingame can be fucked up royaly by their typing. Slow ice types, slow fire ground and fire rock, frail bugs without enough offensive fire power, defensive rock ground and grass ice can make for shity Pokémon, heck Exeggutor with grass psychic fell HARD from grace on gen 3,lets never forget how hard his fall from its status as best grass type was.

Water Fighting isn't terrible, Poliwrath is really fucking good, but this doesn't really translate to Feraligatr, I also forgot about focus punch and Dynamic punch BTW.

Dude, I'm currently using a Sandslash in LeafGreen, in which it doesn't learn any ground-type attacks by level up. I'm enjoying the fuck out of it. I'm sure nobody will complain if a water/fighting 'mon only gets a few fighting-type attacks. Alternatively, we can imagine that we're expanding the mons' movepools at the same time as we change their typing. It's not much of a stretch at all.

I really don't understand this. What about Feraligatr hints at it even being a fighting type? It's almost always about biting. Last time I checked, biting is not acceptable on most martial arts.
