Pawniard is a Shogi piece with a pun on cut, Bisharp is another pun on Cut.

Both are using feudal armors of bandits in Japan during the most famous sword hunt, bisharp has the leadership crests making him a bandit lord.

They are basically living armors that gang up on prey and take them to their leader to finish the job.

they're clearly based on chess/shogi pieces and promotion of said pieces. That's why Bisharp is the leader of all the lower ranked Pawniard. it's fine for a mega to be based on a knight. It's also worth noting that Bisharp's german name comes from "centurion"

I don't know much about Shogi, but Bisharp is missing the pun Pawniard has.

Localization also gave us stupid stuff like primal Dialga and Dark type when Spanish for example played the evil middle ground and went for siniestro.

If we want to predict stuff in Pokémon we have to judge them by their own concepts and puns in Japanese, most evolutions actually keep the puns in their names, at least until Sinnoh.
