Excuse my ignorance mr dubs man OP, but what exactly is this special?
>>28749831
It's a comic book.

MEESTA DUBS MON
>>28749831
It's the manga.
>>28749861
>>28749887
ah, thanks!
>>28749831
What >>28749861 said. It's one of the longest running Pokémon comics in Japan (in fact, its 20th anniversary is March 3rd, 1997). Its tone can be very different than that of other official Pokémon media, and its garnered a pretty dedicated fanbase.
Pika is gonna evolve into alolan Raichu for no good reason and save the day. He already surfs with psychic energy that's enough justification for the manga.
>>28749986
And it won't give a single fuck. Your point?
>>28749800
I don't want Sun and Moon's teams to have too many Alola forms. I don't want a repeat of XY, where 4/6 of X's team were Kanto Pokemon, then a Hoenn Pokemon and only one Kalos one.
Still, I guess it's inevitable that Alola forms and Oak's cousin to play a role.

Soon.

Excuse my ignorance but it always feels like all pokemon Gens are running at the same time, does the manga actually end properly before the next Gen starts?
How can they be best selling if they're not out yet?
>>28750776
It used to.
>>28750776
Nope. Hasn't been the case since Gen III, because every generation they have to do multiple series running in various magazines. We're still waiting for them to finish B2W2.
>>28749831
Also called PokeSpe, it's one of the mangas.
>>28750847
Are all the series still ongoing then or do they just cut the storyline and move on with the next?
>>28750921
>do they just cut the storyline and move on with the next?
They end the stories in the magazine with an ending that doesn't actually conclude anything in order to make room for the new chapter. Then months or years later they release it in volume form with extra chapters that actually end things.
>>28750776
So the way it works is usually like this, since Gen III at least: If there are multiple stories based on the different games going, they chapters are published in spinoff magazines, so like Corocoro 4th Grader, 5 Grader, etc, and then sorta just organized in the volume releases to make sense. A lot of those magazines were cancelled, so there's less avenues for the multiple stories these days. The most recent run of multiple stories was B2W2, first published in a magazine that was cancelled and is now straight to volume, XY, and ORAS, published in a digital version of the magazine.
Since B2W2 is being published straight to volumes, XY won't be released as full volumes until that's finished. Until then, they're released as mini volumes, so like "XY Special Volume 1, 2, etc" so as to not screw up the main line.
>>28750988
Not that guy.
You seem to know a lot about the manga. Can you explain in two or three lines what happened in Emerald, because I've seen a lot of people complaining about it here.
>>28750988
>>28750971
So the distribution of the manga volumes is still in B2W2, but is going to end and then XY and ORAS. How many years did Gen IV last and how many is Gen V expected to go for.
Should I buy it for my bathroom?

An annoying brat called Emerald is the protagonist and wants to beat all Battle Frontier brains. He goes through some character development or whatever, he still sucks.
After a while, some actual plot happens and all the Protagonists of the previous arcs join forces to defeat Archie of Team Aqua, who has used Jirachi to create a giant Kyogre.

Gen IV was finally completed in 2012.
Gen V will probably be completed in 2017.
>>28750781
Sun and Moon have a fucking ton of pre-orders.
