Gamefreak will just hardcode it to be impossible, just like they did with Stance Change.
They could have made an exception and just changed the defensive and offensive stats around and activate Stance Change with regular Protect.
Power Trick already exists, so it's not like the code is unprecedented.

Protean would be pretty shit on something that is clearly a physical speedy mon that most likely has a mediocre attack too and much less coverage and versatility unlie Greninja.
