Why would you want third versions? They may as well just be DLC instead of another $40 shitty game you have to buy with barely any new content.

Taking a 2 year old already finished game and adding slightly more post-game to it isn't impressive and it would have been especially shitty to do on the 20th anniversary year.

Theoretically, yes - but Japanese companies have been reluctant to follow that business model for some reason, much less Game Freak.
