so DO animals exist canonically in the pokemon universe?

Yeah.
Yes, they're relatively consistently shown. They're just not talked about because that would cause some problems and confusion.

go on...

Not really. The vast majority of real world animals shown or mentioned in Pokemon were in gen 1.

Not the other anon but Pokémon probably would have killed off all animals by now. Although you could say humans should also be extinct.

i'm OP. i'm lately thinking that humans and pokemon aren't separate (didn't we all come from mew, in universe? and whats that pokemon that is said to be the spirit of dead humans?), there aren't animals, and that pokemon universe has a lot of other differences with earth. like literally pokemon exist for humans, which imo isn't how animals exist, pokemon generally like being trained and captured, even though that seems cruel to use logically, and furthermore it seems that plantlife also is different in the pokemon universe, because for example fire pokemon havent completely killed all plants on earth yet. also density of natural/pokemon/human elements is out of whack with earth as we know it today.
yes, but just in g1 ...the dying breeds
pokemon were stronger
