The Blue short was as uninteresting as I expected. But it did remind me this is the least cheerful Elite Four out of all of them. I think it would go a long way if the games tried to make the E4 this intimidating and aloof again. Otherwise you get glorified gym leaders and people complaining how unmemorable they were.

There's 18 episodes. If they split it evenly, the first three should be Gen 1. Especially considering episode 1 was a little of all of them, of course this episode was gonna be Gen 1.

I wouldn't even be surprised if the next is still Gen 1 given the general nature of the first episode combined with the pandering to Gen 1 they usually do. If episode 5 ends up being Gen 1 still then I'll start complaining
